Capturing Small Monsters

I know you can capture large monsters (obviously) as well as tiny animals like birds or Omenflies, but is it possible to capture average-sized monsters like the Aptonoth or the Jagras?

It's unfortunate that you can't, which I find kinda weird since, yeah, you can capture the big monsters and the tiny endemic life but not the random small monsters. It's such a weird vibe that you're given option to never kill anything thats not an elder dragon, but the little bastards are apparently just not worth caring about to the game. Guess you can just sleep them and run away but...
