Are health regen augments worth it?
Finally unlocked augmentation (thank you folks for carrying me through AT Zorah). Having the ability to regen health by hitting the monster sounds incredibly tempting, but I wondered if it was worth an augment slot or if other augments are better.

It depends on the weapon. For greatsword it is amazing since you take damage from tackling through attacks.

Unless you're a pro speed rushing meta deeps 1337 that can finish quests in less than 2mins unharmed, yes its worth it.

health augments are worth it on melee weapons on most builds. its really bad for range weapons except for a maybe cluster bombs. here you can find all the meta builds, you will notice some make good use of health augment.

Heard it's good on peak performance builds.

It is especially for Melee. I barely use mega potion with my Taroth SA or IG.

Yes, never needing to use a potion depending on which weapon you use and how little you get hit in between it's well worth it.

Really good on melee, as the others said. Forget about it on a spread shot build, since it'll only apply to one pellet per burst -- which equates to like 1-2 HP healed.

If your set can naturally hit 100% affinity, HP is worth it. If not, affinity first, then HP if you got more augment slots.

I use the LBG and for that I don't really find it very useful. I mean I don't know about you but when I lose any health at all it tends to be a lot but not very often, which is not ideally suited to Regen. Regen is more suited to a low amount of damage taken often. It's probably different for other weapons though.

Its MEH for ranged weapon(other then normal, cluster and sticky bowguns), its meh on dual blades and all other weapons are capable of hitting hard enough or avoiding enough damage for it to be worth it.

Its my personal default augment, but I'm not going for world record speed runs, I just want to put the monster down.

On melee weapons yes health augment is good. On ranged it's trash except with specific counter builds or cluster bombs.

Even if affinity augment is needed to reach 100% affinity, I still prefer health because you can heal up most of the damage taken pretty quickly and tank through attacks with rocksteady.

Depends on your playstyle and weapon. I'm a Mushroomancer, so it's not worth it for me. I favour Affinity or Attack, but rarely will slot in an extra decoration slot if my set absolutely requires it.

Health regeneration on attacks is pretty neat, but it's hard to turn down extra attack or affinity, or even an extra slot, over a luxury like a mediocre vampire weapon.

I guess it might be fun to slap onto a generic Health Boost, Super Recovery, Hasten Recovery, Recovery Up regenerator build or something, but eh.

That's just like, my opinon man.

it's the best augments imo.
even at only 1 it is already good since it is 10% damage absorb to HP(20% at 3)
On melee weapons and cluster HBG, yes.
On the other ranged weapons, no.

If you want to speed run, no. Attack/affinity are the best depending on weapon and skills you use. If you want a massive boost in survivability yes in most cases here's how it works:

If you augment a weapon with 1 Health regen = 10% of the damage you deal is instantly restored to your health bar. More than 1 augment provides diminishing returns (and I'm not positive how much the boost becomes, I think 15% on 2 maybe 20% on 3). So now is where the effectiveness diverges. If you have 1 augment and you hit for 20 damage with a dual blade you restore roughly 2 health. Same conditions but you hit with a greatsword for 200 damage, 10 will be returned. Not all moves convert health either. A dual blade demon dance only some of the hits will restore health, or a switch axe Zero Sum Discharge.

Other caveat is bowguns: if you use spread or pierce only 1 pellet or 1 tick will restore health. So even though my spread bowgun hits 7 times for 20 damage each the heath restored is 2 (1 pellet=20, 20x.10=2, opposed to 7 pellets 20x7=140, 140x.10=14). However using normal ammo that hits for 70-90 on one pellet would return 7-9 health, and cluster explosions I think also return for each explosion (not 100% sure).

Ultimately up to you, but seeing as I don't speed run, I put a health regen on every melee weapon I play. I find it synergizes well with weakness exploit, crit boost, attack boost, critical eye, or any other damage increasing skill. Also turns the luna/nergi weapons into health factories.
