Kinda like a cross between a Lance (basic poke attacks), Switchaxe (in that you can embed the weapon into the monster, by either trowing it or maybe at the end of a combo), and a Bow (able to attack at range and maybe has access to coatings)
Not really sure how that'd work. As much as the farming analogy is amusing, a scythes typical attack style doesn't seem like it'd work when the creature is so large.
I was think less of a farming scythe and more like this:

Plus you could throw it and it returns to you like a boomerang.
I have noticed that some people have speculated or just still hope there would be a new weapon, even if there is still no evidence for the latest Iceborn trailers.
The Hunter's Whip:
So the idea is Nice I have to say and I list the pros and cons here:
Per:
-A new weapon that can use coatings like the bow would be great, the LBG and HBG have to share the ammunition.
-Another weapon that is like the bow of almost close-and long-range hybrid would be interesting, this time more melee than ranged.
-The weapon seems to be very much desired after the anime with Monster Hunter fans.
-A weapon similar to the Trick weapon called Bloodborne Stick might actually serve the 14 known weapons.
-The armor is no longer divided between Gunner and Blademaster, a near-ranged weapon would suit near-ranged armor.
Cons:
- How often is it Pasiert that in the middle of it as DLC in Monster Hunter a new weapon was inserted?
- It seems more likely that the soundfos come from the ASIA Exclusive Monster Hunter.
-How should one mix Nah and Ranged sensibly taxes?
- Man should pay attention to sharpness and ammunition?
-The animation of the chain or rope of the whip could be too much for the consoles?
-How should the hunter hold the whip when he moves without stumbling, which would have to retire like a dog's leash or like the whip in Castlevania.
So I would be for the hunter whip, but if that is feasible and how is the other thing.
