sushifish scale heals bleeding and heals 50hp
certain fish also give materials to sell for some decent money and some alternative crafting materials for bombs ect.
its just something to do. whenever i pass a pond i throw in a capture net to see what fish i can snag but i rarely take the time to fish unless i see something rare i want to add to my collection.
They're found from Great Whetfish, so farming them is not really possible, or feasible. Everything else you get from fish is fairly worthless in the grand scheme of things. Golden Scales, Gilded Scales and Platinum Scales, and their + versions, which you get from Goldenfish / Goldenfry / Platinumfish, can be useful to gather and sell if you're short of Zenny, but there are many other more fun methods than that for money making, so it's meh.
You're pretty much only going to ever fish to complete the Piscine Researcher tasks as well as complete your Endemic Life journal for the background on your Guild Card. The Piscine Researcher questline is worth doing - you get given a Gold Wyverian Print at the conclusion, which is basically like getting a free monster gem of your choice.
Also, the Master Fisher skill is a pointless skill, and bait is also worthless because while nice to have, its tiny capacity of 10 per type makes carrying it and using it an incredibly tedious process, especially when the infinite basic bait works fine anyway.
