so you gotta have the right type of weapon with the right build to fight right monster with the right element. sounds like alot of step but thats how it is.
for a number of end game monsters, they're resistant to fire damage (effectively 0 damage from the fire element).
It's still good vs Vaal, Kirin, and Leshen..
Also, take into account that some weapons benefit from elemental damage more than the others. This includes bows, dual blades, lances, and SnS. Going for elemental over raw on something like, say, LS or IG isn't worth it- unless they already have good innate elemental damage on top of something like Critical Element, then on good matchups, maybe they'll outdamage their raw competitors. An extreme case of this is Kjarr Glaive "Water" on Teo, which outdamages everything else even on blue sharpness.
To answer your initial question, Fire is only worth it against Ancient Leshen, Vaal Hazak, and Kirin. Also The Greatest Jagras, i guess.
The way I was told it worked was that the elemental damage was added to all attacks, and if the creature is weak to it it does more. They didn't mention that creatures could be immune at all, so sorry for the fuss my bad!
Imo craft one or two fire weapons just for those monsters only since they are pretty tough monsters as well and it actually helps a lot especially for arch tempered version for Vaal and Kirin..
As other people have said, fire isn't particularly useful against most targets in the game, but for the ones where it works, it's worth it.
