Iceborn Free or not?
Honestly curious because as far as I'm aware, MH has never had paid for dlc content. Just wanna know if it's something we're gonna have to drop another like.. $20~$30 on. Any information would be appreciated.

$40 for the DLC alone, $60 for the Master Edition (base game + DLC).

The problem is that we were told when the game was released that all dlc would be free, as it has been over the last decade.

The problem is that newcomers to the game get a much cheaper price for more over people who have loved this franchise for years and have loved the new content.

The problem is that we were lied to.
No. We weren't. This expansion is the same thing as them releasing an Ultimate edition like they did with MH3. And MH4. And Freedom 2.

Instead of being a full $60 for the new content on an entirely new install(Freedom 2 compared to Freedom Unite), we're getting it as a $40 dlc.

We weren't lied to, you're just dense.

Question though, how is it fair to people who already own the game to pay $40 when you could buy the game + DLC for only $60?
Because you already paid for and used the product? Because you're getting another product that supplements the original product? Were you not around when games like Medal Honor Allied Assault had expansions that required people to pay for the new maps and content?

What else isn't fair to you? Free college education?

i think perhaps you're confusing 'content' with 'dlc'

iceborn is going to be a full sized expansion, almost a game by itself. sure, its paid content, but all of the patches, monsters, and extras that are going to get added, beyond the unique cosmetic stuff, will be free. which is what they guaranteed.

we didn't have to pay for each tempered and arch tempered monster - though they could have charged for each one, (like total war does by paywalling all their factions nowadays)

we didn't have to pay for R8 weapons in the tree

we didn't have to pay for KT

we didn't have to pay for the event quests

we didn't have to pay for the festivals.

no fees for playing online beyond your normal internet/power costs

i can keep going, but i'll stop there.

^ that's the stuff that's free.

with iceborn, you're paying a one time 40, to get all the stuff they have after that for free.

if you don't like it though, by all means go ahead and not buy it. but as far as 'slap in the face' or 'charging too much' thats being a bit dramatic. I think mhw is doing good by the players by offering a lot for what they charge.

though, the counter point is horrible, horrible connection problems, and overusing the cpu. but i can somewhat look past it. somewhat.

I'd throw my money at capcom if they'd decide to release small monster packs after the release of iceborne. That way everyone will be able to get most if not all of their favorite monsters in this game, which will also increase its replay value and longlivity.

its called milking. this is why only the dumb preorder games these days. you simply wait for discount if you know there will be paid dlc.

yes. always be grateful for what you get. never complain ! never ask for more ! /facepalm.

also there where no r8 weapons in the paid base game at all right? /s

we also got zero proof that iceborne is a full game sized expac for now. we only have the markeing idiots telling us that which i wouldnt trust even for 1 second until i see proof of thier claims. marketing lied too often. never trust them.

the updates for monster hunter world are free, the dlc are not, i can go to the store right now and find paid dlc right now so im not sure where this dlc must be free thing came from, and no i don't consider he said she said worth any consideration until people actually bother linking proof.

this is standard practice for monster hunter. they release the base game then release an expansion down the road. the only change was is this time we finally get to save some money by not having to buy a second copy of the game.

for the bargain bin warriors that save money by buying games months to years after their release, good on you for using your patients to get a good deal. now use your powers to not buy iceborne day one to get your proof that iceborne is a full expansion worth its price tag.

since pc release is delayed your last point is kinda moot dont you think? we will already have that proof for months when iceborne comes to pc. so as a pc player you can already tell if its worth its money or not months in advance anyway^^
Iceborne is not DLC.

It's quite literally, a new game put right on top of MHW.

Veterans know this as second nature.

you would be surprised how many console players find their way here so i tend adjust my posts to their schedule, but yes you can consider it a blessing or curse but pc does have the console crowd acting as guinea pigs for these types of things with our delayed release schedule.

the delay itself is actually good for pc players. the bad part is the most likely duration of that delay. as its simply too long imo. 1-2 months would be enough to judge it. but we will probaly be waiting 4-5 months.

The classic of MH, releasing the same game but with "ULTIMATE or XX" at the end of the tittle
OP, no offense, but you sound reaaaaaaalllllllllyyyyyyyy cheap.

Iceborne is technically DLC, but it supposedly has waaaayyy more content than any free DLC Capcom has released so far. Actually, Iceborne will rival the base game's content.

That's not worth $40 to you?

Would you rather buy the game AGAIN with the DLC for $60, or would you rather buy just the DLC for cheaper?
That's not the point, it's not cheaper. It's a slap in the face to people who already own the game. yes, depreciation over time is something to think about, but not when the game is still $60 right now. So what was the depreciation?
Except I think a lot of us got the game for cheaper. At least I paid $54 to preorder the deluxe edition. Could have paid as low as $45 for the regular edition before the game even came out. Then capcom had several sales that knocked the price down to $35. Sure it seems like we are paying more than those who get the bundle, but we’ve also had the fortune of playing this game for a solid year on PC (2 years for console) before the people who buy the bundle (assuming they haven’t played mhw yet) have. Besides, $40 for the promise of content in equal of the base game isn’t too steep a price, at least for me.
