Rare spawn...on top of Aptonoth near southwest camp 1 Ancient Forest or apotoceros on wildspire waste ...it take a lot try from expedition or investigation , do not bring palico it will scare them and being ghillie mantle..will take a lot of try to make them spawn

it is only one try necessary, when you use the method described in the videos
use ghilie at the spot watch in another direction until you hear the sounds of the birds

What I always do, is spawn at the first camp in the Wastes, put on Ghillie while leaving Palico at base, walk out to the Aptceros, turn around (away from them), walk away a bit, and then look at them again. If I'm lucky, the phantom bird should be there, chilling out on top of one of the herbivores. This is pretty rare tho. They are called phantom birds for a reason.

There's an exceedingly rarer version of the phantom bird that spawns on Mosswine in the Rotten Vale, if you're interested. It's bigger, and black, as opposed to the phantom bird's white color.

I actually found my black phantom bird from gastodon in elder recess, which is weird :lunar2019deadpanpig:

it can spawn anywhere, just acient forest and wildspire its way easier since theres a camp near to
apotos.

high rank or low rank spawns ? one year later, still doing the ghillie trick, still no luck...forget AT nergy, or AT kul, this quest is the most rng ever.

Found out another way.

Go with no Palico and ghillie mantle to the wildspire Waste. Go to the Apthonoths ( idk the WIldspire Waste name :P), if no luck, go back to camp 01 and rinse reapeat.

palico does not affect the birbs. dont worry. just caught some again yesterday. all you need is ghille active. your cat wont make them flee by itself.

for a creepier black version with red eyes please visit your local elders recess gastodons while farming tracks in the event quest.

dont search for the mighty birbs by itself. huge timewaste. instead combine looking for em with doing something useful at the same time.

best options i found :

when your lord and savoir chungus christ is active as an event look for the delivery birbs on back of the monsters in the first are while you wait for chungus to come and eat. saw them a bunch of times while doing puke farming in that area. this is best for white fluffly birb which is needed for final delivery.

for the creepier birb use the event quest tracking the delivery. (was just active again recently) collect tempered elder tracks and equip ghille towards the end of the run. then quickly check the 3 groups of gastdons. it can spawn on all 3 of them.

this way you do something useful while looking for THE BIRB !

None of the "100% spawn" videos I've seen have worked at all, I've wasted a few hours going between areas and it's driving me bonkers.

there is no 100% spawn method anymore. its all RNG.

like i said dont try to force the BIRB. youll fail.

the black version also spawns on the gastodons in recess. much easier than pigs as you have more spawnspots in the area that are close together.

it's one of the most annoying quest indeed... you really need a good luck to find that bird, i need around 10 hours to be able to finally find them
