Sudden 100% CPU usage
Yes I know about this issue, i've been reading about it all over the net.

Thing is, up until today, I've played the game for 80 hrs and finished it. It worked fine and smooth. My PC isn't really high end but I worked around some graphics settings and the game worked fine. I haven't changed literally anything about my system, it just went to 100% and now it's unplayable.

I've updated nVidia drivers, and it's the same.

Specs:

i5 2500k non-oc
8gb ddr3
GTX 1060 6gb
Win 7

I sometimes had stuttering while the game booted but after that it all worked fine and sometimes it started fine as well. I tried searching but all I found is that the game is CPU heavy and that no one knows how to destress their CPUs. I tried changing the priority in the task manager as well.

Did something happend since yesterday? Anyone else suddenly having this issue?

I would monitor actual CPU usage with Windows Resource Monitor. You can put a check next to MHW's .exe in there and then monitor it's specific usage.

Chances are that the game is going to be using quite a lot of that CPU, being only a quad and not OC'd, but you may have other processes that are using some CPU as well and you can probably close those.

I did that, I've monitored it with HW Monitor as well. I also don't run anything in the background. It's just all of a sudden, everything worked fine the day before, nothing changed on my end. I didn't look up the usage before, but it worked for over 80hrs, and the system didn't overheat so...

It's weird, it just went crazy at one point w/o reason. There wasn't even a patch or anything.

I even used to showcase the game to my friend via Skype share, and while it wouldn't be ideal I could still finish the hunt w/o much problems. W/o screenshare ofc, it worked smooth.

did you try the specialK mod? it might help.

otherwise, was there a windows update (or other updates) before the problem occured? might be an issue with that, as i recently had an faulty update install wich forced me to roll back my system. it also caused CPU usage to spike to 100%, altough at random interwalls outside of everything.

or maybe faulty hardware? like a defect RAM?

Well the only "update" was that Windows AV definition or w/e it's called. It's a few mbs and it happens pretty much every other day so I wouldn't classify it as an update. Other than that if it was a hardware fault I guess other games wouldn't work either.

As for the mod, I haven't tired it... I might. I mean it's just silly. It worked one day and then it didn't the next one, w/o any reason. Not really how PCs work. You usually need to screw something up, or something has to actually happen.

Oh well... maybe it will fix itself tomorrow...

The latest version of Nvidia driver is buggy just search hot fix for nvidia (driver version)

The game runs horribly on Windows 7. Upgrading to 10 will be an automatic improvement, and it will remove the stutters. You will not need SpecialK at that point, nor will it work with any later Windows Updates anyway.

I can't stress this enough. WINDOWS 7 CAUSES STUTTERING IN MH: WORLD.

Speak for yourself. Still works just fine on my i7 8750 based laptop.

There was a recent NVidia update that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up CPU usage due to some ♥♥♥♥ with their Container process. Make sure you're updated to the hotfix they put out.
Google it really quick and check your driver version.

this is why mine dont auto update. i do it when i start having problems xP drivers are very important and new ones arent always better.

thats the thing, something changed or you wouldnt have the issues. It just a matter of not being aware of the change.

As an example: It took a friend of mine like 2 month before he noticed that his RAM is faulty. How did it show? Only Ark: survival evolved had huge issues while playing with massive FPS drops and stuff while all other games of his worked just fine. RAM swapped and ARK was playable again.
Or better yet: My faulty windows-update that wrecked windows itself. Yes, my OS froze on me couple of times and even asked if i want to kill the windows process itself.

PC´s are way to complex to truly understand what is going on. Maybe your CPU is on death door or something? I wish you best luck in finding the issue.

First of all, thank you all for sharing the info. I have tried that specialK mod, but as one of you and also the creator of the mod mentioned, it would work poorly with Win7. In my case it doesn't work at all. Upgrading to Win10 is a no-no for me, I just hate that OS, I have to deal with it at work so Im delaying it as long as i can for my home PC. Its just personal pref.

Second thing, I did mentioned how things sometimes fix themselves and what do you know. I just lunched MH today and its back to normal. CPU usage is at 90% and it works just like it did.

Yesterday I did mess with my processes since I noticed that even idle, my CPU isn't downclocking it self like it normally does, and the usage is all over the place. Now as to what caused it, I have no idea. I disabled pretty much everything except essentials and it was the same.

My friend always had 1 solution to his PC problems and that was to turn it on and off xD.
Sometimes Voodoo magic as i used to call it works. Now how long will this last, who knows.

All in all, thanks all. Happy hunting, while it lasts. :)
