Are Investigations finite?
I'm curious about Investigations.
I know that they have a limited number of times you can do them, but do you get more to choose from?

I mean, if you happen to go through all of the Investigations provided (which I realize would take quite a long time), does that mean you don't get any more, ever?

...Or does the Investigation quest pool constantly replenish, similar to Bounties?

constantly replenishes. gathering tracks, your tailraider safari, sometimes breaking a monster part will result in investigations.

once it fills to the max, older ones that you haven't locked in will be replaced with newer ones. its a never ending cycle. rest your fears.

every time you pick up tracks or break a monster's part you'll have a chance to get a random investigation. so yes they are infinite

Investigations are constantly replenished as you pick more up. You can have up to 250 collected at any time, and up to 50 of them can be registered at a time. If you have 250 investigations, as you collect new investigations, the oldest ones are deleted. Registered investigations are exempt from this automatic deletion.

Each investigation have a number on the right, it's indicated how many time you can do that investigation
Investigation don't replenish, you have to get it by gathering track/break part (no guarantee here all RNG)
Bounties on the other hand will replenish itself for each bounties you complete, except weekly bounties because you know... it's weekly

Both are unlimited, but investigation have a cap of 200 pass that limit and the oldest one will be removed for new investigations. You also don't need to do any investigation at all, but if you want farming for materials and later streamstone/decos, it's the best way
Edit: you can only accept 50 investigation, but it's not locked permanent, you can deselect those you don't want anymore to select the desired investigation

Oh, wow.
I feel kinda dense for not realizing what the purpose of Investigations were.

I had thought you had to take the Optional Quests to re-fight the monster in question, like I recently had to do to get Barroth and Ajanath parts.
(The Hammer I got from that was totally worth it, of course. But I might've enjoyed an alternative method)

What's the difference between re-fighting a monster (i.e. farming it) by an Optional Quest, versus an Investigation Quest?

Investigations are randomly generated, and can have many different alterations made to the normal hunt structure.

Investigations can have increased zenny rewards, different hunt durations (15/30/50 minutes), different faint limits (1/2/3/5 faints), multiple monsters, potential capture requirements, specific map alterations (for example, flourishing mushrooms, more rare minerals, etc.), and always come with additional rewards (shown as multiple bronze, silver, gold, or purple (tempered only) boxes).

If you ever need to hunt for parts, always run investigations instead.

This. The only time you shouldn't is when your only investigation options are paired with other targets you have no interest in (or take excessively longer than just the target you are interested in), or the conditions seem too harsh for you or your equipment.

add note: Investigations targets may also possess different stats than their original. For example, if 5 sleep arrows could put a monster to sleep, the one same version in investigation may possessed less or more resists. But usually not far.

Interesting.
I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Whoa whoa, it deletes oldest unchecked ones when it gets full?
And here I've always cleaned it up of the Vestipod garbage to keep it from maxing out. Oof.
