All that matters, at this very second, is that you're in gear with high-rank defense stats.
Ah, okay, I guess the bone armor is okay then because of healthboost and slugger for hammer. For now at least haha.
Thank you for the reply!
Okay, noted, thank you very much!
Now that I'm a little later on in the high rank I've found a 3 set Vaal + Dodo legs (for charge blade) & the eyepatch head gear that works well for me. Definitely not completely meta but I'm a casual baddie that really enjoys the health regen bonus from Vaal's set (so good almost never having to drink potions), and I don't have many good jewels yet anyway for a more jewel oriented high damage build.
I looked at the Odogaron-armor and I agree, it really looks awesome and has some nice skills!
I wrote down the Eyepatch+Vaal+Dodo-set for if I every try out Chargeblade. Not having to drink potions all the time sounds actually really good for my Unga-Bunga-playstyle! Thank you for the suggestion!
Upgrade that ♥♥♥♥ and pop in some steadfast decos and you're unstoppable until you reach Tempered/AT elders.
No worries. The only reason for the dodo legs is because of the +1 capacity for the Charge Blade (gives you an extra phial). If I had the capacity jewel I'd fit some other legs instead. Also the 3 piece Vaal can fit whatever other weapon you like if you are happy to sacrifice a more specific weapon build for health regeneration.
Also keep in mind that the Vaal armour pieces have a decent amount of 1 jewel slots so you can customize them decently well.
Below are a few pics of my exact setup. Like I said, it's not meta and is a fairly generic build. I'm still relatively new to MH myself so there are a lot more 'professional' builds out there. That said, it works well and I have no troubles fighting tempered monsters with it. The health regen is really nice in that aspect, guard pointing damage is quickly recovered which means that you can stay in the fight with maximum health all the time.
Doesn't look half bad either for a mixed set (I love the style of Vaal's armour).

Thank you very much for the advice! When do I get the Quest for hunting a Leshen tho?
(I'd google, but my PC will probably explode if I open my browser while playing)
I don't have many decorations yet, but I guess I'll get some later. Hopefully good ones. I heard the grind for the good decorations is quite hard.
Thanks for showing me your setups! I only tried Chargeblade ones and I thought it is quite difficult too handle. I might have to try it again some time
Hey! Don't hijack my thread! I'm kidding!
Odogaron's main weakness is ice I think so an Ice-bow would be the best idea?
Rathian helm and boots, Bone chest and hands, Pukei belt.
I've been using poison weapons mostly through my entire playthrough and it's worked out fine for me, (mostly Sword & Shield, got a Datura Blossom 3 atm)
I've got a fire and thunder element set now too and am working on making a Dragon element set and eventually plan to have a set built around each element and ailment.
Takes a lot of money though and armour spheres hence the slow progress.
I really like poison, those extra upto 20 damage ticks add up really nicely with Sword & Shields less impressive damage.
Odogaron is weak to Ice damage, Thunder damage is also decent against them.
They're also susceptible to paralysis.
Dragon element is like any other, has monsters weak to it and others strong or immune to it.
Elder Dragons don't like Dragon element at all.
Behemoth is 3 star weak
Lunastra 2 star weak
Vaal Hazak 3 star weak
Zorah Magdaros 3 star weak
Kulve Taroth 2 star weak (1 star in gold)
Kushala Daora 2 star weak
Nergigante 2 star weak
Kirin, Teostra and Xeno'Jiiva are the only Elder Dragons not weak to Dragon so it's a good all round element to dealing with multiple Elder dragons.
Dragon is also effective against tough monsters like
Rathian 3 star
Rathalos 3 star
Pink Rathian 3 star
Azure Rathalos 3 star
Radobaan 3 star
and Deviljho 3 star
Probably a few 2 stars around too but yeah overall I'd say Dragon is a good element to invest in.
Witcher silver sword seems like a good elder Dragon killing weapon since it has good Dragon damage and high Elderseal.
Elderseal is another thing you want when hunting Elder Dragons and only Dragon element weapons have this skill.
Vaal doesnt get damage trough dragon as long his body parts arent
broken you are aiming for, so fire would be the better choice against him
Btw is Radobaan sharing this, as long bodyparts you are aiming for are covered from his bone armor, he doesnt get damage from dragon
