Switch axe: getting hit while doing zero sum discharge
Every time I land the zero sum discharge and mount the monster, I get hit by basically any attack it does next. Shouldnt you be invincible when doing that pseudo mount attack like a real mount? This feels like an oversight

Its not a real mount so no invincibility

Just try to time it when u know the monster isn't moving

Nope. It's not a mount, it's just an attack that makes you glue to the enemies hitbox but entirely vulnerable to roars, being hit, flashed off etc.

Honestly it's best not used much if at all because your sword mode will make the best of your amped state, but if you do want to use it (it's kinda great for removing tails, after all) try to use it only when a monster is otherwise occupied, or knocked down. It's a very good move to use when you see combat end and thus know a monster is leaving the area, since you can tag it and follow it out while doing damage, often times stunning and preventing it from leaving.

ZSM is not a mount, it is a latching attack, so you will take damage and knockback unless using the Temporal or Rocksteady Mantles.
ZSM is good to use if your Sword Form is about to run out, a finisher for when your Amped State runs out, or as a latch for when the monster leaves the area. In some cases, it can do 600+ damage, but this is super rare.

Yeah only use that if the monster is downed or trying to leave aka don't use that.
The uncharged version is pretty good to charge up the sword tho.

Thanks for the tips
also I did say pseudo mount at the end, referring to this not actually being a mount

it's a latch so if the monster moves and you are in the hitzone, you get hit. You also get earplugs 3 while latched, so earplugs is a good skill for SA.

The clutch claw is exactly the same.

Yup, the coolest move the SA has doesn't work 75% of the time.

Ending Zero Sum early is good for this sort of thing. Once you get the Temporal Mantle you can just Zero Sum with literally zero worries, so that's a thing

That can be said for all weapons, a lot of moves arent meant to be spammed

This is true.

gotta work on that timing lol.

The damage potential for a person using ZSD is there to balance it. If you could just charge up your phial and get a free invincible damage punt every 10-30 seconds there'd be zero challenge to using the weapon, and nobody would do anything else. Knowing when and where to use it is important. You can fire them off frequently with some monsters, depending on how you fight them, but you need to learn their movesets well enough to get the timing downpat before it's going to be a viable strategy. Sometimes it's just better doing a discharge on the ground, or alternating between axe and sword for the combo move's damage.
