Any way to reduce cpu usage in this game?
I'm open to just about anything. I have an old cpu but a fairly new gpu.

CPU: Amd phenom x4 II 965 BE
GPU: GTX 1080

I know that's a huge disparity of parts, an almost 10 year difference, but at the time the cpu wasn't a problem and it has been for awhile. My friend is sharing this game with me so I'm trying it before I get more into it as I've been playing dauntless for the past couple weeks and I know MHW has a bigger depth field than dauntless, so I'd like to switch over to here.

Only problem with upgrading the CPU is its like a 400-500$ cost wise for a new mobo, ram, cpu and might as well do case while I'm at it.

Thanks

You can try special k, but I can't guarantee it'll make the game playable on a phenom.

Edit: Unless you're still on windows 7. Then it's a nightmare getting special k working.

The game was hard-coded to use all that CPU in order to massively reduce load times, so even with Special K you won't be able to reduce it by that much.

Was in a group with someone curious about the Special K as they were having CPU issues. After trading screenshots of our Task Manager it would seem the other guy had way too many programs running at once. MHW only takes up about 6% CPU at most on my slightly dated computer, so I'd suggest the OP to look into the processes that are running in the Task Manager first.

- Disable steam overlay in-game.
- Use your nvidia control panel to load everything onto the GTX1080
- Like @Tregrenos mentioned, check your Task Manager and limit your progs there

This game is unfortunately designed to be incredibly CPU intensive since it literally loads the entire map in a hunt at one time and micromanages every little detail... Lowering a few settings may help you squeeze out more FPS if that's what you're struggling with, but I'm afraid that nothing short of upgrading to a thread ripper and using Special K to force the game to use Physical cores instead of threads will solve much...

It's so weird. I recently started playing this again and decided to restart the whole game again with a different character and for some reason, whenever I fight Teostra or Kushala Daora, my game crashes without fail. With Daora, its specifically when he does the lingering tornados.

I don't remember this happening before.

Doesn't seem to be the case for me. MHW uses like 85% of my cpu

New CPU time.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 (Clock speed at 100%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (Clock speed at 100%) x1 will produce 91.13% of bottleneck. Everything over 10% is considered as bottleneck.

You also want 16GB RAM to run an 8GB videocard well.

Yeah I'm fully aware of the bottleneck. As said in OP it's like a 400-500$ upgrade to have neither be bottlenecked because its not just a cpu upgrade. Ram+mobo+cpu

man your computer is skipping leg day so hard with that CPU, i strongly suggest hitting up hardware swap subreddit, I got my 8700k/Mobo/Ram for <$400

You're like 7 months late lol. I already upgraded since then.
Vylann, what did you upgrade to? and how is it running now? im thinking of upgrading as well...this game has my CPU at like 90%... :/

The Anti cheat is the source of the performance issues since Iceborne's launch. Unless your cpu can handle it, you will stutter and more. There is a bypass though that was made to turn it off. No, you won't get banned.
