Character creation: uncanny valley
So... ive been at this a while.

when i first started monster hunter i took a long time molding and creating a character, and now at HR 90 something i decided to grab the free character creation ticket and do some changes after doing an entire playthrough with the character.

ive been sitting here for a long while trying to make her face look more human and less... alien looking but no matter what i try it always looks to be in this weird uncanny valley type area that i cant get out of.

does anyone have any tips on creating a good looking female character?

or at least some suggestions on face types and whatnot cause its a real pain when you cant compare how two faces look side by side to spot diffirences and whatnot

Post a screenshot of what you are dealing with right now.

Keep in mind that there are options to change the lighting in the bottom left corner.

Also, you'll probably want to zoom out when evaluating your character, since you'll rarely ever get to see your own face close-up during regular gameplay - even during cutscenes, there aren't that many direct closeups.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, as long as your character looks good from a distance, you'll probably be happy with the result :3

Hot or not depents.

But if you really ask for opinions here, i'll give you mine:

She lacks a feminine touch. Her high cheek bones, lips and chin are pretty dominant and the blonde hair/eyebrows paired with the green "drowzy" eyes make her face look sharp and edgy.

The eyebrows are slanted in towards the nose and as Jethro put, the drowzy eyes make it off I think

I think I kept my character out of the uncanny valley for the most part.

If you change her lips you should get a big difference. Esp the upper lip is more masculine because its smaller. But try to not go all the way, a bit smaller in general could help aswell.

If that is not enough, you could give her a bit more "fat" on the cheeks to soften up her facial lines.

Eh. I'll be honest. I think a lot of girl characters are pretty busted (obviously subjective). But, if you want tips on designing a pretty face, I'd take it from the Asian players that post in screenshots/artwork. They usually make really pretty characters, but obviously this comes with a lot of bias (they're mostly Asian characters... and I'm Asian xD). Caveat: idk how much of their work is supplemented by mods.

Here's some ideas to start I guess:

I think in this case, one of the most important things is to get your use of color right (don't go for strange eye colors, hair colors, skin tones unless they really work). But I will say this: no matter how pretty your character is, I think you're bound to have good angles and bad angles.

When in doubt, just be the ultimate woman: Ciri

That's my Monster Hunter female. I didn't try to really do anything too special, just make her look kind of "Wild" in sense.

I'm happy with how she looks. Though I do spend hours creating characters in any game that gives you the option, no matter how limited the options are.
