What do you do after finishing the story?
I finished the story recently and loved every bit of this game so far- but right now I kind of feel clueless on what to do. I know that this is a grinding game, but im not sure what exactly to grind. And what about endgame content?

Farming for more decorations to improve your equipment, fighting some non story monster like Deviljho, Lunastra, Behemoth , Kulve Taroth, Leshen, fighting Tempered and Arch Tempered Monster, doing some events like Ancient Leshen, there are still things to do until the Expansion is coming

Well don't forget that MHW isn't an mmo, the content isn't endless, but having said that there is an mmo sort of answer - you get the best equipment, get all the achievements, get Hero Streamstones and do the event quests for Layered Armour.

First is to unlock your HR. If it jumped to 29 the commander should give you a mission to do. Once completed it should jump your HR again. If it isn't over 49 then once you get to 49 it will lock again and the commander will have the second to last mission for you. Once you beat that mission you can fight tempered elder dragons which is a large part of endgame content. They drop streamstones used in augmentation and decorations that make your builds better.

The last missions are completing all other missions (8* and under) and a mission when you get to HR 100. That will fully finish the story and the only other endgame fights are mentioned in the post above. You can farm Kulve Taroth weapons, fight Behemoth or Extremoth, and ultimately wait for the Iceborne Expansion later this year.

Pick up a new weapon. Gotta master them all. (The real endgame)
Start with horn. That one needs more love!

I work on and save end game builds for each monster. I help out with high rank SOS. Grind for weapon augmentations. Event quests and seasonal events.

It's frankly up to you.

I aim to collect all armors and items that are released as DLC and master/learn as decently as possible all the melee weapons. I also aim to get all achievements done eventually.

Some aim to collect all armors and/or weapons.

Some aim to make a great guild card.

Some aim to speed run all or the hardest monsters.

Some aim to help with SOSes.

You are basically free to do what you want.

The most obvious direction I can point you in is however to get all the arch tempered elder dragons' armor and layered armor including the Extreme Behemoth and Ancient Leshen. Reach HR 100 to unlock the final quest and clear it so the NPCs call you The Sapphire Star. Maybe master all 14 weapons in the process.

That should extend your game lifespan by a couple hundred hours at least based on my own experience.
a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!

After the story:
Get my decos and sets together

After that:

Your first step is to unlock HR 50.
Do that by doing lots of tempered investigations for potential decos and augments.

After that, the world is yours.

Unlocking all the leftover monsters up to Lunastra is a great start.

However, i do NOT recommend getting all weapons and/or armor ( believe me, i tried) theres only 1000 equipment slots
