I dont understand y cant I upgrade the weapon?

Nah, he is just selected his metal dual blades instead of the bone ones.

Go back to when it let you select the weapon to upgrade in the previous menu and make sure you pick the bone blades.

You can't do the upgrade you have selected because you haven't gotten far enough in the story.
You could upgrade the "ore tree" one, if you moved the cursor up to it.

You are incorrect. He has his ore one selected as the one he wants to upgrade, thats why its highlighted like that.
He needs to go back to the previous menu and select the dual blades he wants to upgrade.

YES HE HAS. He can upgrade all the way up to wild hatchets I (if he has the materials) because that is all researched. What he CANNOT make is wild hatchets II, as that is UNDERDEVELOPMENT. Stop spreading misinformation.

NO THEY ARENT!!!! Whats Under Development is the upgrade AFTER Wild Hatchets I.

you are though, not how theres 4 icons along the Bone tree, he can make all 3. he needs to select the correct DB's to upgrade though. he selected Iron DBs not bone. thats why he can't upgrade them.

I had to select the actual bone dual blade from the page which was on the second page. But this is pretty odd we should be allowed to select the blade from the page I show on the screenshot in my first post.

Well, what they should do is hide the rest of the weapon trees behind a button press so its easier to know when you pick the wrong weapon.
I did this for an hour a couple days ago for about an hour, and I have close to 2000 hours (between pc and ps4) in total in MHW. So dont feel to bad, even we hunter "gods" are idiots.
