Monster healing?
Do monsters heal when they run away to a new area? If so then by how much? Like during a long fight do I have time to go back to camp, eat, and get a few healing potions from my item box, or will the monster be back at full or almost full health by then?

I'm not sure what the rate is, but monsters do heal while sleeping. It is actually quite slow though, so don't worry about it too much. As long as you don't dawdle and just make a quick stop at the tent, they won't have time to heal any significant amount.

Monster healing is slow, and only happens while it's sleeping. If it's just waiting for you in the next area, then you can take your time restocking.

Unless you take more than like five minutes to resupply and come back, bombing the monsters when they're sleeping will always be a huge damage gain in comparison to them regaining health. Unless you're speedrunning, let them flee, take some time to resupply or think about your strategy for the end of the fight (capture it? use temporary buffs? Maybe eat a new meal if more than 10 minutes have passed?), and then go for it.

Depends on the quest on how fast monsters heal. A good example is AT Nergi will heal for about 1% of his HP every 45s or so. Other monsters heal at a snail's pace.

Note that the monster sleep here is different with "sleep" inflicted by attacks.

If the monster ran away then sleeps by its own, it would regenerate HP. This sleep also doesn't inflict double damage on first damage which hits the monster.

For how much health they regenerate, the slowest is at 1 HP at every 1.5 ~ 2.5 seconds for low rank monsters and can go to as high as 10 ~ 15 HP/sec on some AT monsters. The health regen also may or not scaling with the multiplayer health scaling.

Monsters only heal when they return to their nest to go to sleep, where they'll heal between 1-3 HP a second depending on the monster and quest difficulty. They can't fully heal from this, since they'll wake up eventually and start roaming the map again.

I'm not sure what the trigger point is for them waking up. Either they reach a specific amount of health again I.E above 15%, or they simply sleep for a random amount of time and then wake up again, which stops the healing process.

Monsters do not regain health while sleeping through environmental or player induced status effects, nor do they regain health when interacting with the environment I.E Diablos doesn't regain health when eating cactus, Deviljho doesn't regain health while eating monster carcasses and Odogaron doesn't gain any health when eating his meat parcel, etc.

Behemoth can regenerate health if you don't immediately follow him into the zone he's run off to, or if you run away during the fight. Not sure how much health he regenerates, but I think it's a mechanic to punish players trying to glitch out of the Ecliptic Meteor attack, nothing that you have to worry about if you play the fight properly.

Zorah Magdaros and Kulve Taroth have strange health values, but you don't need to worry about that because they're scripted fights for the most part anyway - and they can't heal either way, their health just gets "reset" as phases change etc.

I once had a monster walk back to its nest and had it sleep until it decided to wake up again. The skull over its head was even gone after that. I thought it healed up a ton of HP at that point, but funnily enough, that wasn't the case. I still killed it in like 3 hits or so.

Kinda weird as to why the skull went away, when all I had to do was to sneeze at it and it went down.

it also happens when they eat, but those are the only 2 times
behemoth is the exception
