Sound cuts out through Bluetooth.
The other day, while letting the nephew try out the game, I tried to run the game through my bluetooth speakers. Sound cut out, I couldn't get it to come back, so I gave up and played sound through my brother's TV instead.

Now when I try to play via my Bluetooth headphones, the sound cuts out the second I create or enter a session. I have to alt-tab, unpair my headphones, then re-pair them- every single time- to get the game to play sound through the device.

Anyone else having this issue?

Nope, no nephew issues here... Good luck anyway 😁

Do you have the headphones set as default device &/or active before you started the game? I have had issues with games/discord in the past when switching audio output during games or after discord is open.

I have the exact same problem with my bluetooth speaker.

I checked, and the headphones were already set as default, unfortunately. Also, I've found that even after I re-pair the headphones to force them to work in-game, if I happen to fire up my recording software, that re-breaks them.

I think I solved the issue, though. It occurred to me that I hadn't plugged my wired(USB) headset back in since taking my PC to my brother's place. This shouldn't matter; it makes no sense that not having this headset plugged in should affect -anything-. But I plugged it back in anyway.

It worked. My bluetoth audio devices now function properly while MHW is running, even if I start recording. Because computer logic. 🙄

So I guess if anyone else is having this issue and has a USB headset lying around, give it a shot, I guess.

Bluetooth is iffy. It's low bandwidth. If a device can be recording and playing back at the same time it either sounds like underwater static or completely cuts out one of the two lanes.

Basically you can't have windows think you'll be using it as a calling device. It's better off to just use a dedicated wired headset.
The only wireless ones that work can bypass this with pairing to a special receiver. Those headsets aren't cheap though.

That's a Bluetooth issue, not a MHW issue.

Flyingbox - I'm aware of Bluetooth's issues. It certainly doesn't help that nearly any bluetooth audio device also includes a mic in some form for hands-free calling and such. I even tried disabling its mic, to no avail. As I mentioned in my previous reply, what got it to work, inexplicably, was plugging in my wired headset. Although that probably ties right in with what you said; Windows thinks the wired headset is my "calling" device and is leaving my headphones alone. Maybe? Your guess is as good as mine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Satan - True, but it only happens with MHW, and only when I create or load a session. Otherwise, I wouldn't have posted it here in the MHW threads. Actually, I probably shouldn't have anyway. Sorry about that.

I can confirm this is a bug with MHW and Bluetooth. MHW syncs to non wireless DAC's when you enter a game and if you do not have any other online/enabled DAC's availble (onboard sound for example) BT audio will cut out. This is a dev issue that needs to be fixed in MHW.

guess what i have the same problem as well for mh rise and even the beta test of mh wilds. it's not a bluetooth problem per say but when using a bluetooth device and joining a mh lobby (and only in a lobby) the sounds start to get bad.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
