Why would you go for the drachen armor?
Been coming back from a long monster hunter break and heard behemoths drachen armor set is supposedly this end all armor that goes into all of your builds but I just don't see it.
Everything worthwhile it gives you is masters touch and crit eye but you can get that much more efficiently with the legs, helmet and gloves from the teo Y set that also has good fire res and also leaves you with 2 more armor parts to complete your build rather than 1.

Why would I ever want to use the drachen armor outside of maybe an elemental insect glaive helicopter build which is pretty far away from "goes with everything"?

It's not an end all armour. It's a lazy set of welfare armour that has a good chunk of skills that most people value, while including a bunch of slots that you can mess around with for the most part. It's an ideal set of "stepping stone" armour that you don't even have to kill anything for to make, that helped narrow the gap between nerds like me and weekend gamers and video game journalists, etc.

It's useful for people who haven't got access to event quests, or missed certain events I.E the Appreciation event with the top tier Gala Suit (well, some of it anyway) or just Arch Tempered monsters etc.

Drachen armour + Greatest Jagras + The Names Lavasioth! = get ready for Iceborne, hunters!

It's cheap, common and ugly. Just like the Longsword and Dual Blade users who tend to be the ones wearing it :steammocking:

Master Touch is just a very good skill.

Becouse master touch its insane

Master's Touch is just too good, and that annoys me.

Drachen is the most attack-focused set in the game, plus it has master's touch (insanely useful on almost all weapons), plus it has a good amount of slots.
Some math people calculated that it has the best stat distribution for mhw meta. It also looks awesome.

Because the people who use it for all of their builds don't do AT content.

The y armors actually require effort to obtain - you can get full Drachen without ever actually killing Behemoth by abusing your Palico's Plunderblade.

?? Almost all melee speed runners run 4 piece drachen and you only need health boost 3 for AT monsters as an average player that doesn't suck at the game.

Really?

I'd like to see an average player solo AT Vaal without Miasma Resist, AT Luna / AT Xeno without Heat Guard, and AT Nergi without Evade Extender + Earplugs

yeah so what always one piece exchange for the special gimmick of the monster
4piece drachen + vaal boots or gamma kt boots
since when does a ls player need evade extender or ep?

or you simply use foodbuff to avoid wasting slots for a skill
like fur coating as exchange for headguard or moxie up to prevent ohko which makes hb3 obsolete

That's moving the goalposts - he said ALL YOU NEED IS HEALTH BOOST 3, and NOTHING ELSE.

BTW, the BEST players don't use Drachen, because they're fighting the monsters NAKED.

Pulling off optimized speed runs only proves you know the proper inputs for infinite ledge combos and the like.

AT nerg doesn't need either unless you're really bad, vaal boots beta has 2 slots and 2 levels of effluvial res, AT luna doesn't need heat guard but kt gamma legs covers that and has 2 slots.

But generally you only need 3 health boost still cause you can nullberry to cancel effluvial and torch to mitigate dust, position better to not get roasted, and roll/block against roars.

Again, that's what you call moving the goalposts.

You're also DRAMATICALLY over-estimating the skill of the average MHW player.

When was the last time you carried a random SOS?

or you under- estimate them

vs at luna simply use the swiss army knife of mhw
bow or glutton
multiplayer is always another story because of the increased threshold
