You are aware multiplayer monsters have like 250% of their base health, right? So that means you both would have to do around 125% of the monsters solo health to kill it, split between you, making it slightly more erratic and frantic tackling things in a duo, although I guess the palicos make up for that somewhat.
There's no way to have people join your expedition without firing SoS flare, if you want your expedition to be "private" then you either have to set join requests to be manually accepted or just cancel flare after your friend joins.
Flares ignore that your session is private.
Once the objective for the quest has been completed and the end timer is counting down, you should all choose the option "return to camp" instead of "return to base". That will put everyone who chose the former into an expedition together.
The issues with this route are 1) it's annoying having to complete a throw-away quest first just to get into an expedition and 2) you're entering an expedition blind with no idea of which NPCs or conditions will be present (which can be frustrating if you're looking for a particular item or in-map quest that only pops up under specific conditions).
Expeditions also don't handle multiplayer flawlessly. For example, you may see an NPC directing you to find doodles that will assist you in locating and befriending the grimalkynes tribe on that map, but any friends you have present will not.
SOS flare literaly is designed around random matchamking so it canot be pasworded.
If you want to play friends just make a passwordedlobby and meat up in the hunting lodge/hall hall.
This we know but we wanted to hunt monsters and just explore via the expedition. We have since found out it is not a good idea to hunt monsters via expeditions so we do it now via investigations and the board
