Should I replace my Odogaron armor with Nergigante?
So I've been wearing Odogaron armor since early HR, and it's doing fine, with a nice combination of offensive skills (Dragonking Eyepatch instead of the Odogaron helm, though).

But I'm wondering if I should upgrade soon as I take on the three elder dragons. The Nergigante armor seems like the only real option for improvement, with better defense and some good skills, but is it worth losing the Odogaron skills for the Nergigante skills/defense?

Thanks!

Edit: Oh, if it matters, I'm currently using the insect glaive, but I change weapons every now and then. I'm thinking I'll try charge blade next, maybe to take on the elder dragons (probably the Nergigante weapon).

Nergigante gives a lot more combat-based skills that make killing monsters faster. Ultimately, it may be good into looking at Mix Sets

It’s hard for me to remember exactly what part of HR you are at, but yeah eventually you’ll want to replace it. However, that’ll come when you start amassing decorations and can make proper builds. I ran Odo Dragonking for a LONG time and really loved it. It was a great set for the middle game and I still miss it sometimes, but it’s very very low tier once you move into the endgame. If you’re not struggling with fights yet, don’t worry about it, just start grinding decos and look up “meta builds” for your weapons of choice to get an idea of what you want to work towards. The Dragonking eyepatch however, I’m almost 200 hundred hours in and still have builds using it. That’s a good piece to hold on to and upgrade.

Odo set gives Razor Sharp? Since when?

To OP you are at the point where you should be using mix sets and neither Nergi or Odo have decent set bonuses so just pick whichever pieces benefit you most. The nergi helm is popular.

For the most part, I'm not having problems, but I did with Nergigante for a while, and I'm sure I will with the other elder dragons.

I'm also dying a lot trying to do the quest to kill a Diablos and a Black Diablos together in order to get a new specialized tool. I'm not sure why I'm struggling so much with this one. I didn't find Diablos that hard before now, and I even beat Black Diablos once without much trouble, but all of a sudden it's harder. Do the monsters get harder with higher starred quests?

Yes. The more stars the more difficult. But sometimes one will be listed with others but is particularly more difficult. Like Lunastra or Ancient Leshen.

As for what armor you wear, try different things. When all is said and done you should have several sets of gear and weapons for different monsters usually. And you should usually not wearing all the same monster gear ie: all Nergigante or all Odogaron. You can of course. They have some decent set bonus but it's usually better to mix match armor from different sets to get better skill combinations.

But don't worry about it too much. But yes, Nergi set is a pretty good set and a lot of builds usually wear 2 or 3 pieces of it at least.

just finish up story mode and get the witcher armor set. the witcher quest gives you a free attack jewel and the armor set is a very good starting armor for those who just came fresh out of story mode if using melee weapons. have fun.
