what do i do? i spoke to him in ancient forest and i found all the gajalaka doodles. and then...? nothing happens and the researcher tells me the same thing. how do i "use" my bugs to find them?

Is that the quest where you need to find 10 gajalaka? If so, they're on the Elder Recess.

If not, those doodles in each locales merely serve as a guide to where to find the cats (or nothing at all LOL), It doesn't matter if you find all those doodles or not.

how am i supposed to find anything then? are they a trail of sorts? i need this for the bugcage.

Ancient Forest - Area 17 (around the highest tree)
Wildspire Waste - around Area 15
Coral Highland - around Area 12
Rotten Vale - around Area 11
Elder Recess - around Area 8
