DPS wise, Charge Blade is much more powerful. But learning curve is much higher meaning you'll probably get better results earlier on with the Switch Axe.

Switchaxe is pretty fun. Pretty much your go-to combo being the wild swing into a morph attack which does huge damage, and is very easy to use against sleeping monsters for even more damage potential. Ever since I've started learning the Switchaxe it just seems a little ludicrous, drunkenly swinging it around and hitting huge damage numbers, killing stuff and severing tails faster than anything I've used thus far.

I can't comment on the Chargeblade, but it's pretty common consensus that it's pretty damn powerful, especially when landing the SAED (Super Amped Elemental Discharge) which looks good and you can tell the monster felt it each time someone uses it, lol.

I've written a guide of Switch Axe if that helps you make a decision https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1591169533

Everyone is saying SAED but when Iceborne comes out, SAED gets nerfed, and SA gets buffed

Charge Blade all the way. SA was amazing in previous games (actually, I think it was the best weapon overall in MHGU), but not so much in this one. But the new moves do look good. So we'll see.

We're going to get the Savage Axe mode . So it's going to shift to that ^^

SA is one of the weaker weapons in GU, getting only nerfs from Gen , LS and Lance are the best melee weapons.

Also Savage Axe is not really that strong but can be extended indefinetly by refilling phials, so there's that.

Charge blade its cluncky but you get rewarding results, Switch axe its just cluncky...and frustrating.

Im sure Iceborne after giving SA more love and making axe mode finally useful more people will jump to it.

but kinda hard when other weapons are getting better buffs/moves overall.

Charge blade is probably better just because SAED is as good as it is, plus you have guard points and stuff like that. SA isn't bad by any means, but Charge Blade just in general seems like it could considered better, though that's just my opinion.

He's probs thinking MHGen, Gen was where SA was stupid strong, and then GenU nerfed it a bit

Both weapons are good in their own way, even if one of em does way more damage, there's no point comparing the 2 anyways. They're really unique in their own way and what you should do is play with what u have the most fun or learn better with. However, apart from damage potential we should look at how the weapons scale versus difficult monsters (ATs, extremoth, lesh, etc.) The benefit of playing CB is that it has more defensive and mobility options over SA. The SA has no problems slapping a monster to death if it sits still enough and gets tripped to death, but as content gets harder and faster, the way SA locks itself into huge animations with few counter-plays apart from rolling makes it suffer alot. Although CB can overcommit with SAED, it has various options in sword mode and guardpoints that make up for it, as well as the ability to KO and have access to literal elemental cluster on legs: Kjarr Ice CB, which is used on at least 5/7 ATs (yeap, it's even good on Vaal and Kirin for some unholy reason).
Chad Blade is an SSS tier weapon.
SA is a dead meme.

It's not even fair to compare them, then again almost nothing compares to Chad Blade.

@HCZS I agree everyone should play what is most fun and not worry too much about DPS or clear times. I'm not a speedrunner at all, so I can't comment from that perspective. I care more about efficiently and mythodically cutting down monsters piece by broken piece. That video guy's Lance just looked bad... I don't know how much he really knows how to play well.

But I agree with your first post, there's more to consider than just raw damage output. And more to consider than just time too. My 3 favorite weapons in this game are Greatsword, Lance, and Hunting Horn. Horn is fun in groups, but not something I spend a lot of time with. And there are certain monsters like Nergi that I can decimate with the lance even quicker than my greatsword. And break/cut everything. And it's surprisingly a lot of fun. Especially counter smashing him in his stupid face, or chasing him down as he tries to run away.
