MHO shutting down doesn't surprise me. It was pretty crap.

Frontier shutting down on the other hand? That's kinda surprising. Perhaps the Frontier team is working on a Frontier 2?

I wonder why the copycat nation cares about license?
you can only hope for a talented hacker who uses dump files to restore a server like they did for the wii.

Why was it crap?
The graphics looks much better than generation, while having lots of monsters.

I wonder why these games were always limited to the asian region.

Can't speak for why they're region limited, but, as for mho, inferior gameplay and stupid gimmick fights.

Like the Plesioth hunt where you're in boats.

MHO was 100% pay 2 win. You can literally buy your way to end game, and half the monsters were locked behind paywalls, as in, you spend 5 dollars for a zinogre hunt. MHO was garbage, it broke frequently, and it was ungodly easy, with zero challenge whatsoever. Even merphistaphalin, it's equivalent of Fatalis, was easier than Fatalis in the main series.

Frontier on the other hand, is honestly sad to hear, but the community was expecting it. The last update for Frontier was in February, then the dev team went silent. It was only a matter of time.
I hope we get more Frontier-like things, I'd love to make customizable weapons, and difficulty beyond G/Master, HC and Zenith, would be amazing.

The reason for MHOnline shutting down it's due to problem between Capcom and Tencent. LSS Tencent did a few mistakes due to China game policy and this caused a huge money loss to Capcom. Due to this Cap cutted any relation with Tencent and decided that they had to remove any copyrighted contents from MHO. This would mean removing at least the 40% of the game, and since the population wasn't high they simply dediced to shut it down instaed of adding new contents.

As for MHF ... we are talking of a 12yo game that didn't aged well at all and struggled a lot since the release of MHW. THe only hope is for a private server that won't let this piece of story vanish but the last time a group tried they recived a C&D from Cap almost instantly.

The fact that MHF survived this long is a miracle.

nah theres plenty of old MMO that still run today, Frontier had lots of interesting monster hunts to go and do and most were pretty challenging. even if graphically it wasnt amazing there was always a stream of new content being fed into it.

online was as many have said, a pay for power MMO, with paywalls up the butt. the devs knew that wouldnt fly in the western market so rather than try they chose to save money. didnt stop people from using a VPN to try it till they got banned for not being in the right region.

The devs didnt try to stop it because they couldnt. MHO was run by Tenecent, aka, the ones that practically own Epic Games. They were unable to stop it because the Chinese government couldn't stop VPNs.

I've been playing Monster Hunter since the first day it had been out on the PS2 and since then I spend countless hours grinding. When MHF was announced I was in excitement and keep track of when it launch. Since then I've been a subscriber of MHF and seeing it grow. 12 years of MHF is unthinkable for me. Spending almost 500k yen just for MHF in a 12 year duration.

Hearing that MHF is shutting down with MHO I was in shock. MHO is trash and never got my attention. MHF in the other hands is depressing for me but I knew 2019 will be the last of the days I can still play MHF because of the silent devs and the last update is in February. I still remember the old days.

Ahh MHF , the pinnacle of Monster Hunter difficulty ....
Too bad the current MH developer team and MHF team can't work together , imagine fighting the Zennith White Fatalis in World.....
