Making MHW Less GPU Intensive
So, I got MHW a while ago, and could play for two weeks. Then, I couldn't play anymore, and kept getting ERROR12: Graphics device crashed. I have heard that MHW used to focus less on the GPU and more on the CPU, which is probably why I could run it before. Is there any way to shift more of the load back on to the CPU?

Don't know any precise way to channel working force directly into one or another but if you want to ease up the gpu have you tried the basics first? You know stepping off the OC a bit, dimming the graphic settings in game etc. Usually in situation "I could play before but not anymore" you cross out things like did any driver update occure and if so roll back to previous one or did any game update came up though you can't rly roll back on that.
Error 12 is quite a popular topic ever since launch I believe stretching across many users with various configurations and settings with exception of consoles ofc.

Try DDU to do a clean uninstall of the display drivers, then reinstall your drivers which ever brand it is.

Do make sure windows is up to date as well.

Lastly do close unused programs that are running if you don't need them.

From experience DDU usually fixes most problems if it is display driver related.

If you don't provide your PC specs, no one will help you in any way, because its impossible to.

You can lower graphics settings but other than that, no not really.

I have already turned down all the graphics settings to the lowest possible setting, but have not checked my drivers. As for what Katitoff said, I don't know my laptop's specs because I suck at computers. What I have gleaned from the task manager is that I have 6 GB of GPU memory, but MHW always says I only have .6 of whatever unit they use available, and need 1.7 of their unit. I also have an "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz", 12 GB of what seems to be RAM, and the disk thing says "ST1000LM035-1RK172". Also pengtuck, by DDU, you mean display driver uninstall, right?

Additional information: The display device seems to be the "Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620", whatever that means.

If all you've got is onboard graphics(the UHD 620), there's not much you can do to reduce GPU use. There's no tool like nvidia inspector for intel GPUs, so you can't use the tweaks I used to get the game playable on my old laptop.

The best thing you could probably do is go into the intel control panel and create a custom resolution lower than the standard resolutions the game lists. Try 960x540.

A quick guide here.

Just tried it, and it kept telling that the Steam API was having issues, making it think that it was an unauthorized copy of the game T^T

running everything on Low and using special K mod would probably do this.

pending on your specs your GPU should be fine in any case and a minimum is recommended to be something like a 960 or 970 GTX worth of power. most integrated laptop ones end up being trash unless you bought a 2000$ laptop focused on the GPU and CPU being mighty.

♥♥♥♥, the 970 gtx has 7 gb, but I only have 6 T^T. I'll try installing the k mod thing and see what it does.

Got error 12 first like 2 weeks ago when running around austera 10 mins in.From that day it didnt happen once and I've played plenty since then.Fast forward today and as my game saved>exit I get another error 12.Event viewer. log https://imgur.com/a/iCzRyKn This was after doing 2 AT nergigante runs with no problems.Yet it crashed on Exit?-.-

it seems the problem was brought back with a recent patch (witcher) from ppl experiencing the same error recently.Luckily it rarely happens to me (twice so far)

Rig:
1080ti (driver 416.94 clean installed with DDUCleaner suggested by greybear from the nvidia forums as one of the most stable drivers)
9900k 4.7ghz
ddr 16gb ram
970 evo 500gb

My rig is fairly debloated

No overlays
All "game" settings turned off
Ansel and nvidia telemetry off
And no bloat apps running at the same time except discord/steam.
I run the game with fullscreen optimization disabled.

i've never seen the error myself on my 980ti or my 2080ti, i havnt updated my drivers in ages either. i was using super old ones back on my 980ti and only updated them when i could finally get a 2080ti at normal price.

i dont think drivers are an issue here anymore, they used to be for performance but now not so much.

theres gotta be something we're missing.

edit: whats interesting in that log is it posted so many times before finally recovering... if i had to hazard a guess there might be something wrong elsewhere in the setup either hardware or software. i'd try running lots of maintenence stuff like system file checker and the like and see if they find any problems as well.

I tried system DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and sfc /scannow just incase and nothing was found.
