It is one of the easiest monster hunters out to date though, so you might pick it up quick.
G rank may kick your ass if you arent prepared.
Dont forget pickaxes and bug nets.
Don't play melee prowler unless you want to be kicked from every hub (RIP my beautiful little prowler ;~;)
If you want, id hunt with you, i can probably play MHW and MHGU at the same time with out dying.... maybe.
GU is 4th generation, so the game isn't open world. I will say the game will be a lot more challenging and hard compared to World. (Diablos will actually put up a fight here)
Also, the game has tons of maps and monsters compared to World. Despite barely having any subspecies (GU only has Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos), GU (er, the original generations, rather) introduces a new type of monsters known as Deviants. Don't take them lightly...
No tempered monsters, but GU has Hyper monsters. Two glowing spots appear on the monster and changes places every now and then. They're attacks become more powerful, sometimes they'll change slightly depending on the monster.
Also, Hunter Arts and Styles. The weapons you use will change in moveset depending on what Style you choose, Arts are basically "super moves" all weapons get, you build up a meter by simply attacking. A lot of the Arts are attacks, but others can be supportive and all that.
....Long story short, GU is very different from World. lol
Edit: OH YEAH! Prowler! You can play the entire game as a cat. Don't underestimate them, they can actually put up a fight. There are videos out there that'll explain everything if you wanna learn more.
(I follow Gajinhunter)
I've also heard rumors that a new MH game for the Switch is currently in development. Hopefully it's real.
also get used to not seeing damage numbers and have to judge proper hit zones via audio and damage slash visuals.
Dude I just saw a YouTube video of a guy soloing a G-Rank Glavenus with a LS + counter style in 3 min 45 seconds. O_O
He used a skill (something called Critical Juncture, I think) and cut off its tail with a perfectly timed counter. Twas the most beautiful got damn thing I've ever seen. I mean, I know I'll never be able to do it myself, but still...
The former, recent MH games like Monster hunter 3, Monster hunter 4, Monster hunter generations, were all Nintendo exclusives for handhelds & had "crappy" graphics & very different control schemes. If you feel burned out on MHW a new monster hunter won't fill that gap
(MH recipe is very repetitive & samey even with improved 4k AAA+ grafix). Better switch genre / franchise instead!
Disclaimer: I didn't test the new MH on Nswitch yet.
First things first are you a gourmet gamer? Like you want your stuff look maximum beautiful with 4k AAA+ games? Are you familiar with handheld gaming & cramping hands?
Because the nintendo monster hunter games are mostly handheld games & complete different worlds compared to MHW. And for adult gamers the joycons can maybe give handcraps, because they are super tiny controllers more made for juvenile hands xD
It is very different to play a games on PC in the office, on Xbox with beamer, or on Nswitch in the metro communte to work / school.
Don't expect a MHW experience on a Nswitch. It is a tiny portable device more for coop & mobile gaming, if anything. Yes i know you can hook it up towards your home cinema television whatever, but that more "simulates" a AAA+ console experience. There is a reason why Nswitch will never get a full MHW release. Simple hardware limitations, etc
TL;DR
Console MH big difference to PC or "next gen" MH. Nswitch is kinda "last gen" & MHW is "next gen". Do you want eye candy or portability?
Last but not least it is very good to make big breaks between MH games, you can burn out pretty fast on the same grind & rinse & repeat process. I would recommend to wait for a true "next gen" version for either PS5 or something in maybe 4 years?5 years? no clue
I binge played 4 successive MH franchise games in the past, and in retrospect found it a wasted time & instead should have focused only on 1 game per generation & played other wonderful games instead
PS: You can get the switch cheap on second hand sites like e-bay, etc etc. Don't overpay! That hardware nowadays is hardly worth more than 200-250$ tops.
Don't fall for overpriced retail hoax prices!
Hmmm...interesting points. As to your question, "Are you a gourmet gamer?" my answer is definitely no. I really don't care about graphics at all if the game is an absolute blast to play.
Does MHGU give you that sense of accomplishment and progress like World does? That's why I fell in love with World so much.
EDIT: Wait, you said you haven't played MHGU on Switch yet, right?
That's good to know,thank ya!
Now I'm hearing rumors of a new Switch model possibly being revealed at next week's e3. I'll definitely wait and see what Nintendo's up to.
Overall, I'd first say that the game was worth the price (but I already had a Switch so I didn't need to pay extra few hundred dollars for one).
The best thing about Generations is the monster and gear variety. Apparently there are over 100 different monsters there. (haven't finished the game yet). There's just insane amount of things to do.
It definitely does give you that same feel of accomplishent and progression as World does.
When compared to World though on gameplay level, MHGU does fall short on most other aspects.
There is a noticeable lack of quality of life options and it baffles me how the series has been going for so long without simple things like crafting multiple items at the same time, "take all" button for reward boxes and ability to switch your equipment after accepting a quest(but not starting the actual hunt yet). Things like that.
The new hunting styles are kind of a letdown too. Picking any hunting style apart from the basic one takes away moves from your weapon in exchange of special abilities. I get that it's a balancing act, but not being able to do the moves I'm used to from World really deterred me away from switching hunting styles.
Monster behaviour is sometimes kind of annoying, as they run away a lot more than they do in World. You don't have the Wingdrake fast travel, so it can get frustating when a monster flies to the other end of the biome and when you do catch up to it, they often run away again.
That's all the negative things I can think of. As long as you understand these and know what you're getting into, you won't be disappointed.
I love Generations Ultimate and even with these few issues I have with it, I can still definitely recommend it.
A small advice at the end here; the GU's quest rank progression is tied to specific "key quests" that are not marked nor differentiated from all the optional quests. I recommend looking up the key quest list online, because you'd definitely burn yourself out if you try to do every single optional quest too. There's just so many of them.
Invaluable info. Thank you so much.
I was also considering buying a switch only for GU.
Then had the luck to try my friends switch out. Played some mariocart and zelda and I just hate the joycons. They feel like you could break them any minute.
So I would need to buy the quite expensive pro controller.
Some months later I made him buy GU and I was like... hell yeah lemme try that.
40 minutes later nargacuga was dead... my hands nearly broke and I said.
Never ever a switch again.
End.
