Left stick input gets stuck in specific directions at random
As the subject says, At random times and only during hunts, my movement input (left stick) will sometimes get stuck in one direction, most noticeable if I'm moving in a circlular motion. I know this ISN'T an issue specific to the controller I'm using, as I've tested this using multiple controllers and the same issue cropped up at random, and my friend also claims he's gotten the same problem.

The only consistency is that it seems to happen with Xbox One controllers. I'm using the Hyperkin Duke, which acts as an Xbone controller, and my friend is using an actual Xbone controller.

Also I've checked my inputs using joy.cpl when the problem would crop up, and my inputs read normally. So it appears to be an issue with Monster Hunter specifically

Here are videos to show what I'm talking about:
Here's my inputs working fine outside a hunt. Never happened in the Hub or Astera.

Here's the problem popping up during a hunt. Notice how I keep beelining to the right when I'm trying to do a circular motion.

If anyone knows whats up I'd appreiciate it. Not sure where the issue lies.

might verify MHW files if you havnt yet. it looks like you did your due diligence on making sure it wasn't the controller, the driver running the controller or anything else altering that controllers inputs.

so beyond that beats me.

I have this exact same issue on keyboard instead of controller. Did you find a fix for this?

Sorry, no. It's still complete random. Sometimes wont happen for like a week straight, but it'll always come back for at least a day to remind me it's still there.

My only advice for now is to make sure you don't have any other input devices connected, other than the keyboard, mouse, and the single gamepad. It would be weird for another connected gamepad to only sometimes provide inputs, but it's plausible.

Also you might turn off the Steam input integration, and/or clear the Steam controller config so it's not interfering.

Did you find a fix for this? I've just re-installed Monster Hunter World and I'm getting the same issue exactly as you are but I never had it before when I used to play.

Unfortunately I never found a concrete fix. I haven't had the issue at all in my most recent play sessions. That said, I've also switched to using a Steam Controller. It may have something to do with using PS4/ Xbox controller settings within Steam's Controller options.

I am having the same issue with my xbox one controller. It only seems to happen when using the switch axe, and only after a few minutes.

Sounds like an issue with the USB port.

It's not a problem with the controller, it's the game itself. It only happens when you're in the combat zones, and the controller works flawlessly elsewhere, even if you check the inputs running while in the game its working fine.

One thing I noticed is that it's still actually reading inputs when it locks up, your character actually sways to the left and to the right slightly when you do it while stuck running in the same direction, so it's definitely a game bug not a controller bug.

Exactly! This is such a weird bug. I have redownloaded drivers, verified game files, used a PS4 controller, switched USB ports, tried USB 2.0/3.0, and nothing helps. I guess I just won't use Switch Axe...

I just got the game for PC and I'm having the same issue.

Some info from my side (confirming other theories):
- Controller: PS4 (pure Steam BigPicture config, no extra DS4 stuff installed)
- Weapon: Switch Axe
- FPS: 110-120 (similar to OP's)
- How to reproduce: spend some minutes in small arena fighting something, it also happens on other maps but small arena is fast to repro
- Workaround: do a wall jump attack and the problem is gone (?!) I'm not sure if it comes back after that though

This is so annoying that I'm also considering just ditching Switch Axe because this bug really triggers me and affects my game, hopefully it won't happen to other weapons.

That's super weird wish I could help you but unfortunately I use ps4 controller via bluetooth

That's super interesting. That fix I mean. Super strange. I suppose that is our answer for now as I've never seen anyone else find one.

Sidenote: I've been using Gunlance, Hammer, and Greatsword since Iceborne launched on PC. Haven't used Switch Axe yet, and I haven't encountered the bug. So it is definitely a Switchaxe related problem as of now.

I also have a similar problem where my controller starts spinning and I have to use keyboard controls until the camera fixes.. super annoying against lunastra
