Can you only capture monsters on capture missions?
I was doing a slaying quest, and I wanted to capture it instead so I can fight it in the arena , but....my trap tool would not even appear on my belt. is that normal?

There are 3 types of hunts. Hunt, Capture, and Slay. Slay means it can only be killed, which is exclusive to elder dragons, since they are immune to traps anyway. In hunt, you can either kill or capture.

Remember that trap tools are not traps, but the item used to craft a trap.

The best thing to hunt on is typically investigations. They give bonus rewards at the end, so if you're hunting a monster, why not get extra rewards at the end?

honestly I find investigations kind of confusing...at the moment the ones I have? are really low level/uesless for my crating needs

You get investigations by picking up tracks and breaking parts of the monster you're fighting. If you want investigations for a specific monster at a specific rank, then go find tracks of it or fight it in some other way.

Your investigations are found at the resource center. You can have up to 250 total, with 50 registered. The registered ones are the ones you can then access through the quest board, and they won't be replaced by new investigations as you acquire them.

thanks. this game throws way too much at you too fast to really get it.....i most likely forgot 50% or more of what they tell you

but the monster I want to hunt is not in the Resource center management.

Then you'll have to find a way to track/fight the monster first, through expeditions, or optional quests.

well actually you can capture in a slay quest
capturing work every time and will still give you all the reward but doesnt work on elder dragon off course

While it is technically possible, what slay quest has anything other than monsters that cannot be captured?
