Its very cool to play coop though.
Its very straight thing, you dont need to talk or interact, or combine the right build for your group like diablo 3 for example. You just start a game, launch a flare and thats it. People will join and you all can go kill (or die) at your monster mission.
That will do unless you share the ID.
That being said, co-op really is pretty fun in MHW. I'm normally a solo player in most games and avoided co-op here for a while but once I gave it a shot I ended up mostly playing in groups.
most of monster in this game are scaling with amount of player presence in game
the more player are the more hp monster will have
once there's more than 2 player in the game your palico (support cat) will be gone
and you split the money reward at the end of the quest
in solo you'll have your palico support you and you don't split money reward with anyone
there are some quests that are made of multiplayer exclusively
Behemoth,,Ancient Leshen,Kulve Taroth
you can still do those quest alone but it's going to be very very tough
because they don't scale the hp with amount of player
