You're able to play this offline if you don't have internet, but if you have a connection it will still automatically connect you to an online session. You can still play solo in an online session (you can set party sizes to 1, etc.), but if it bothers you that much, you can always just create a private session so you're effectively playing alone.

Its very cool to play coop though.

Its very straight thing, you dont need to talk or interact, or combine the right build for your group like diablo 3 for example. You just start a game, launch a flare and thats it. People will join and you all can go kill (or die) at your monster mission.

I've got no interest in any form of coop and would rather play entirely alone. I especially don't want anyone just hopping into my game. How do you prevent that? I have the game set to "online session ID Only" does that mean it's by invite only? Or is there some other way I need to prevent people from joining?

People can only join with that setting if you give them the session id code. There's no other way for randoms or friends to join.

That will do unless you share the ID.

That being said, co-op really is pretty fun in MHW. I'm normally a solo player in most games and avoided co-op here for a while but once I gave it a shot I ended up mostly playing in groups.

solo/co-op each have their own upside/downside

most of monster in this game are scaling with amount of player presence in game

the more player are the more hp monster will have

once there's more than 2 player in the game your palico (support cat) will be gone

and you split the money reward at the end of the quest

in solo you'll have your palico support you and you don't split money reward with anyone

there are some quests that are made of multiplayer exclusively

Behemoth,,Ancient Leshen,Kulve Taroth

you can still do those quest alone but it's going to be very very tough

because they don't scale the hp with amount of player

you can play by yourself, most of the content i needed to beat, i had to do it by yourself. sometimes teammates ♥♥♥♥ up, so you end with the old saying "Guess i gotta do it myself". Co-op is still fun though
