Comparing/Listing all Large Monsters of the Monster Hunter main series in the games (Including G/Ultimate Versions separate to normal except Iceborne because of spoilers)
I just wanted to do this for fun because I have nothing to do, so lets get straight into this, it may be a long text though. Also I will not be including Iceborne monsters for spoilers.

So lets start from the very beginning! MH1

MH1 Is the smallest game of the entire series (Surprisingly only one monster below tri/3). It included 17 large monsters. These monsters were; Cephadrome, Diablos, Basarios, Fatalis, Gendrome, Gravios, Iodrome, Gypceros, Rathian, Rathalos, Kirin, Yian Kut-Ku, Velocidrome, Monoblos, Lao-Shan Lung, Khezu and Plesioth. Overall a good amount of monsters and a huge amount of content for a game around that time, I sadly never got to play it though, even though I have a PS2.

Next we have MHG. First, no we will not be only including the monsters ADDED in these G/Ultimate versions. Instead we will be compiling every single monster in that game.

MHG had 31 large monsters packed inside of it. These included; Velocidrome, Lao-Shan Lung, Yian Garuga, Yian Kut-Ku, Blue Yian Kut-Ku, Plesioth, Green Plesioth, Monoblos, White Monoblos, Diablos, Black Diablos, Kirin, Ashen Lao-Shan Lung, Fatalis, Crimson Fatalis, Basarios, Gravios, Khezu, Red Khezu, Rathalos, Azure Rathalos, Silver Rathalos, Rathian, Pink Rathian, Gold Rathian, Gypceros, Purple Gypceros, Iodrome and Gendrome.

Note: Yian Garuga was actually added in MH Freedom. But it's the only thing that really changes between both games and since I didn't include Freedom here because of it's similarities to MHG I will put Yian Garuga in the MHG list.

The next game we have is MH2. This game had 45 large monsters. This included; Velocidrome, Gendrome, Iodrome, Yian Kut-Ku, Blue Yian Kut-Ku, Congalala, Blangonga, Rajang, Kirin, Kushala Daora, Rusted Kushala Daora, Teostra, Lunastra, Chameleos, Yama Tsukami, Fatalis, Crimson Fatalis, White Fatalis, Shen Gaoren, Bulldrome, Diablos, Black Diablos, Monoblos, White Monoblos, Gravios, Black Gravios, Basarios, Khezu, Red Khezu, Gypceros, Purple Gypceros, Rathian, Pink Rathian, Gold Rathian, Daimyo Hermitaur, Shogun Ceanataur, Cephadrome, Plesioth, Green Plesioth, Lao-Shan Lung, Ashen Lao-Shan Lung, Yian Garuga, Rathalos, Azure Rathalos and Silver Rathalos.

The next game on the menu is MH Freedom 2 (MH Freedom is the same as MHG). This game had 47 monsters. This included; Giadrome, Velocidrome, Gendrome, Iodrome, Yian Kut-Ku, Blue Yian Kut-Ku, Gypceros, Purple Gypceros, Khezu, Red Khezu, Akantor, Tigrex, Monoblos, White Moboblos, Gravios, Black Gravios, Rathian, Pink Rathian, Gold Rathian, Kushala Daora, Rusted Kushala Daora, Chameleos, Lunastra, Teostra, Rathalos, Azure Rathalos, Silver Rathalos, Plesioth, Green Plesioth, Rajang, Congalala, Blangonga, Daimyo Hermitaur, Shogun Ceanataur, Diablos, Black Diablos, Lao-Shan Lung, Ashen Lao-Shan Lung, Fatalis, Crimson Fatalis, White Fatalis, Cephadrome, Shen Gaoren, Basarios, Bulldrome, Kirin and Yian Garuga.

I'm thinking of getting GU on the Switch and seeing so many monsters is making me lean towards buying it.
First you say you wouldnt add G rank but you effectly did starting with MHG which was litterally an expansion to MH... lol

Damn right. Had a long flight recently and took my switch on with me. It was the most entertaining experience I ever had with a handheld device on a plane.

Yes but IB is g rank. Its essentially the same thing so you should post that too.

Otherwise its not a good comparrison, really. Also you can use spoiler tag, and I didnt play generations os that technically would be spoiler to me ? :p

Just re-doing this reply. I didn't use Iceborne because it was fresh and people are actively avoiding spoilers plus I forgot about the spoiler thing for discussions :P
Also Velocidrone was not a large monster for instance. Its a monster just like the regular jagras.

Thats Velociprey, Velocidrome are dromes. And the dromes are large monsters. Basically greats but with a different name.

In size only, I dont recall needing more then a coupole of hits to down one which is how I classify large monsters in that case gastodon could be considered large too :p

You should maybe change the title to "Comparing all Large Monsters of the Monster Hunter games of the main series"

Cause if you would also list MHFrontier or MHOnline (who both close soon) then the list would go on xD

Yep, all Great or Drome from those monster count as Large Monster, as sad as it sound,
its like with the Vespoid Queen, i wasnt even realize that she is also a Large Monster,
cause she dies so fast when i encountered her the first time all those years ago. XD

Btw Kiwi you missed to list Kulve Taroth for MHW

Well I guess. But Velocidrome plus all of the dromes have already been confirmed to be large monsters as they have individual hunting quests and count as a large monster on the map.
Garuga didn't originally appear in MHG though. He appeared in Freedom 1. Granted it was essentially just MHG port for PSP but Garuga was the one monster that differnciated the two games.

Oh really? I never knew that. Should I delete it off of the MHG list?

I'd honestly just leave a note that he was added in Freedom under the MHG section.
