nergigante spikes - longsword???
trying to hunt nergigante in order to make the armor, but for some weird reason i can barely ever break his spikes...

im using kadachi fang III and atk boost 7 while most often eating a L or M atk buff from canteen + might seed... yet nothing

is longsword just very bad at breaking spikes or am i missing something?
is affinity better for breaking them?

attack boost is a trap skill outside of explosive bowgun ammo. for a majority of weapons, if your goal is damage you focus on affinity so weakness exploit 3 is a must, crit eye, crit boost ect.

if you can you get attack 4 but stop there because it comes with both attack and some affinity and if your weapon allows it you add elementless (no active stat or element).

the good longswords to go for is the divine slasher from the arena or the devil jho one.

the spikes break based on damage only so if you cant do it you simply arent doing enough. not even part breaker effects nergi spikes if i remember right. long sword struggles a bit because of its reach often causing you to hit his body instead of what you aim for.

with a good build you can "one hit " the white spikes with a red helm spliter
also do it solo if you want to break thing cus multiplayer will give more health to parts

i try to focus the spikes on the legs as much as possible, but might be the reach you mention so i hit his wings instead...

gonna try and aim towards the skills you mentioned

Try to get a weapon with Elderseal as well; Elderseal is a special property certain weapons have that allows them to effect elder dragons in special ways; Elderseal on Nerg will cause its spikes to break faster

seems like the best elderseal weapon i can get right now is Nergal Reaver 627 attack, alot of blue sharpness and high elderseal.

also went through all my armor options and gonna end up with something like this:

Atk boost - 4
Crit eye - 5
Weakness Exploit - 2

Focus on one part at a time.

When you attack a body part, you will cause spikes to start growing there immediately. So if you're attacking wherever, spikes will grow all over his body faster than you can break them. But if you focus on one part, the spikes on the rest of his body will take longer to form, so you can stay ahead of them if you have good aim.

This is more difficult with the longsword since it has such big swings.

Use devil jho LS
Handicraft Charm - 1 or 2
Atk boost - 3 or 4
Weakness Exploit - 2
Health boost - 1 or 2
(Optional) Part Breaker - 1 or 2

Prepare Farcaster if situation is not good.
Megabarrel Bomb for Wake up Attack if sleep at Nest (Place it at His Horn).

If you want to seriously dish out damage then you want to get your crit chance as high as possible and then get as many levels of crit boost as possible.
Attack boost is strong but other skills are way stronger, which is why it's considered a noob trap.
Think about it this way - attack boost ADDS damage while crits MULTIPLY damage.

Not having crit boost on your build is fair because the jewels are extremely rare, but three levels of weakness exploit are pretty much necessary. +50% crit chance is just insanely powerful, you can't pass that up.
Try the eyepatch helmet, the Teostra arms, or the weakness exploit charm. Jewels are ideal but if you don't have any... Just keep playing and pray.

Next you can try to build maximum might, which will give you +30% crit chance with a full stamina bar (relatively often on longsword).
Unfortunately this skill can be tough to build for. It's on Nergi gamma pieces but if you don't have those then your next best option is the Nergi B helmet or the Mighty Charm.

Critical Eye of course will also increase your crit chance, but it takes a lot of levels to be valuable.

Good old attack boost will add some crit chance at level 4... But it's the lowest priority on this list.

Of course, if you don't have anything better, then attack boosts are great. But try to get your crit up as much as possible.

And most important of all - keep practicing.
Even if you have the most optimal build possible, if you keep missing your attacks or are too slow then you'll never be able to break Nergi's spikes.
