And stop being a braveless hiding behind those pretentious nonsense "I've been told about..., I've just learned about..., I didn't expect... ". Even a child can lie much better than you.
For me, the learning both JRPG series that never clicked for me were from the same company was interesting. Without the Steam recommendations, I would never have found out.
Of course, if one has a habit of being devious or lying, I can understand how he could make assumptions about motives. After all, projection is not exactly a new concept.
If that's all you could contribute to the thread, you can safely go back under your bridge.
they said that they didn't enjoy game while told by others Ys VIII is masterpiece and that's it.
I agree ending is really bad and almost ruined whole experience with game (not sure if this is a Ys Series thing or is just unique for this game)
but overall Ys VIII convinced me to stay with series a litte longer.
The wrong is not about OP's opinions on Ys VIII, it's about his real intention behind making this thread.
Hating Ys VIII's ending, disliking its combat, feeling game pacing was dragged, getting annoyed by Raid interruptions and more, it's all valid and his rights, I understand that not all game fitting all players, it's hit-or-miss, it is what it is.
But I don't buy the "just learning about Trails and Ys under the same Falcom developer" BS, he played Ys series enough, heard about from someone or group somewhere therefore it's impossible to not hear about Trails mentioned along somewhere in discussions.
Even if he really did not know, and that he was not satisfied with Ys series, he could just make threads complaining about how each game in the series did not work for him, the flaws etc., or in the reviews. If you have problems with Ys, just said so in Ys forum, if you have problems with Trails, just mention that in Trails forum.
Yet somehow he has to wait till "JUST knowing both are under the same devs" then go create this thread, with title specifically stated "TWO" series that he hated, with very little addition on how those two felt worst compared to other JRPGs. Now that is no longer about sharing his thoughts, he's implying with intentions, obviously not in an honest and fair view of way.
Normal person wouldn't act like this, if you truly hate something or even the entire dev team/publisher, you just move on, never go back, never think about it again, ever. But attention seeker? It has been always like this, same patterns, saying "I hate this, game is bad bla bla bla" with very little on why the game is bad, or why he has to purposely publicly announce that he hate the game.
So it becomes a battle of "I like this" and "I don't like this" - The Thread. Which is the exact reason developers don't bother looking at any of this.
So this is just another example of pointless negativity. Obviously people will want to talk about experiences they didn't enjoy but typically you do that to friends or your social media accounts rather than an open public space that many people who play said game will be visiting. Otherwise it ends up in a b!tch-a-thon and battle of opinions that go no where and make everyone look stupid.
It's quite sad that I come here to look for game discussion. Yet, 70-80% of the time I'll be seeing these pointless negativities. I really was thinking "What is wrong about this place".
And it's the exact same feeling I had with the Trails one: a series that was strongly recommended to me too.
This was very disappointing because there are no real JRPGs franchises going on nowadays and I would have loved playing a new one.
FF, once the king, isn't exactly a winner. Last good ones, IMHO, were VI, VII, IX XII and that's it. (XIV doesn't count)
Given this is an Ys forum, I mostly expected people to tell me that they liked one but not the other, or both and why, and which one were best. (Because obviously I've not tried them all.)
But I was mostly flabbergasted by the fact both are from the same company.
Maybe I'm not "people" but I love comparing opinions about shows, movies, books, games, ...
I find it much better than staying in a echo-chamber.
If not liking something is "being negative", well, I imagine your ideal conversations must be pretty bland.
And again, the point was mostly about the fact that the two only series I've consistently disliked (and believe me, since the 80ies I've played a lot of them), are from a single company.
But an expected reply would have been ...
- disagreeing and telling which ones of the series are the best and why.
- telling that in one's opinion, one series was good and the other not
- telling that instead of these two, another series was worse and because
You know? A basic, cordial, discussion about likes and dislikes between people who, supposedly, have at least the common ground of liking a genre of games.I'm pretty sure its not a generational thing because there are kids in their 20ies and 30ies where I work and they like this kind of discussions.

Anyway. I almost forgot about this post because I only got a notification opening Steam right now.
But you didn't word your post in a constructive way to generate said discussion so it looked like nothing more than a flame post lol.
He just took a dump into the forum and now tries to start a flamewar by acting like he is some more sophisticated being than people who call him out for taking a dump in public.
just block this troll
I'm kind of with you, this was my first Ys game and I was very pleasantly surprised and actually loved it, pretty much binged it all the way through. The ending wasn't amazing but I thought it was interesting and it didn't ruin the game for me in any way.
Unfortunately this game set my expectations way too high for Falcom games in general, and I bought the first Tales of Cold Steel game but dropped it after several hours, wasn't really feeling the combat system.
I bought Ys 9 and played through probably 2/3 - 3/4 of it and dropped it because I didn't really like any of the characters nearly as much as I liked the Ys 8 cast.
I played the Y 10 demo for several hours, but didn't care for the duo combat really and didn't buy the full game, especially considering now they are reselling the game with some newer version for full price, dodged a bullet there.
I tried Ys 7 and Memories of Celceta, just a couple hours of each, but they just didn't catch me in the way that Ys 8 did and at this point I don't think any other Falcom game will.
But, for me this game was very fun, the characters were pretty much all great, the couple I didn't care for I could leave out of my party. It's definitely by far the best one out of the Falcom games I have played.
