Weird FPS/GPU Usage issues with 1440p 144hz
Hi all,

Not sure what's going on so I'll just explain. I'm using a 2080ti, 1440p 144Hz display that has GSync.

I have GSync on, V sync on via NVidia Control Panel, and in game I have Vsync off. Playing in Full Screen.

So when I boot up the game, and start playing, the game runs at 60fps per my monitor's built in FPS tracker. Looks pretty smooth, pretty good, GPU usage around ~40%.

If I alt+tab or change screen settings at all, when I come back in, my monitor shows 144 FPS but the game doesn't look any smoother (characters look a bit jittery when moving), and my GPU usage shoots up to 80-90%.

Alt+tabbing or changing vsync/screen modes in game does nothing to change this after I did that initial alt+tab. Only thing that puts it back to 60fps, 40% GPU, smooth gameplay is a restart of the game.

Is this something funky with Gsync going on? Or is it the game? I also experienced the two-shotting a boss glitch that others have, which I read may be FPS related...

Since the game doesn't have any kind of FPS limiter in the menu, it's hard to toy with this. Obviously I want to play the game smoothly with minimal GPU usage to prevent fan noise/heat, and it seems I can do that if I just launch the game and never alt+tab, but wanted to check if anyone knew what was going on.

Thanks for any help!.

Like half of the games on my Steam library will mess up in the exact same way after ALT+TAB. Solution is simply not to do it.

Try playing in Borderless instead of Full Screen. Full Screen appears to have issue for some like black screen & getting locked out of next game boot.

And reduce supersampling setting from in-game graphic settings as well, it should be the reason your GPU usage went skyrocket.

I'm using borderless as Ruya suggested on a G-sync 4k display and don't have issues alt + tabbing and often may leave it alt tabbed to do other stuff for several hours even. I maintain a solid 60 fps without issue so hopefully that fixes it for you.

This is it. 1080ti here, max supersampling on a 165Hz GSync monitor and it works perfectly. I think DWM (Windows's own desktop window manager since 7) may be chunking you down and sticking it when you go back to the game. Can't say I have proof, only anecdotal evidence and some reading I've done. But surely don't pain your eyes with lowly 60fps :leaCheese:
