Ys VIII Today
Well, I know a lot of people are asking if the game is worth buying those days, and being fairly sincere with you guys it was worth since the launch. Yes, yes, the game was delayed a lot but in their deffense they explained themselves and let a lot of people ask for a refund without problems. And Yes, the game was buggy but they warned that the game would have issues and they would fix it. In less than a month the game was completelly fixed, and I have to say, I'm still waiting for Square to fix a lot of issues with Nier Automata, and untill now, nothing so...

So TLDR: Buy the game and have fun, unless you have a pretty crap machine, in this case It's your own fault, not of the game or Nisa's.

About the game however: Story wise, it's the best one, and I have played every single game of Ys (of the remakes one, the old ones I watched but I don't have patience to play, so since Ys I and II chronicles 'till now, I have every single one) of course, I would love to play Ys V, but it seems they will make Ys IX first, that's new.

Anyway, the gameplay is awesome, the game works pretty well, and it's rare to find a game that works better on Borderless Window mode than Full-Screen, the game does run pretty good in fullscreen BUT the V-Sync doesn't seems to work on it, it would be a bad thing but since borderless window doesn't lose any performance at all, I don't mind playing with it.

My Pc is fairly common, you can say it's old if you want, since I have a Core i3 3rd gen 3220 with 3.20ghz, 2 slots with 4GB of ram single channel and a XFX R9 280, that's not the greatest VGA at all, but the game runs with all the ultra settings, with V-Sync and everything at 60fps on 1080p both on Borderless Window or Full Screen (Again, for me at least V-Sync does not work on full screen).

Also, an interesting thing is that this game recognizes DS4 controller without Steam magic and do have an option setting for you to choose between the buttons layout, being Numbers for those weird cheap Joysticks with numbers instead of any symbol at all, Symbols for DS4 layout and Letters for Microsoft Controllers, wich is amazing, a lot of games need to be modded for you to have other buttons for different joysticks so it's amazing the fact that I can play this game with any single joystick I can find and plug on my Pc.

The game also have Dual-Audio setup wich is something missing on any Ys Game published by XSEED and Trails of Cold Steel too, it's interesting that Nisa could bring the Japanese voices here but XSEED cannot at least try to pay the royalties or anything. Well, not judging, people seem to like every single port of them even if it's a bad one (Ys Seven feelings here boys).

This is also, the biggest Ys Game so far, it have so much more to do than other Ys games, and I do think that a lot of people take the Launch case of this game here and the Translation Issue that they did fix some time after that (Hell, at least they haven't robbed Fan's translation and put inside the game and doesn't even gave the credits to those people afterwards like happend with Ys: The oath in felghana, just saying), the game is fixed, it works pretty well, it looks better than PS4 and Switch versions, and different than, again, XSEED ports, this game does not look like a port at all.

The options and settings are all inside the game, they are quite a lot of settings that does not appear on PS4 versions, if I want to change resolution, window type, v-sync or anything, I can do on the fly instead of having the need to close the game to open the launcher and put the settings I want off-game and then play the game like happens with almost every port Xseed brings from Falcom.

With everything being said, here's the thing:

I, personally, I don't know you guys, want Nisa to take more works with Falcom even if people for some weird reason are being a jerk with them untill today, because at least we could buy this game like, eight months after the release on PS4. If you want to face the truth or noth, sadly XSEED made us wait almost eight years for Ys Seven, and did a pretty bad port (even the chinese not-oficial port was better), almost five years for Ys: Memories of Celceta to PC and more three years or so to bring us Trails of Cold Steel I and II, and really, it's quite sad to have to wait SO LONG for a weird port, that clearly is just that: A port. I can't play any of those games and feel that they were made to work properly on PC, they don't have any new stuff inside the games to change the configurations, they all work like FF XIII that were clearly emulations of the Xbox versions. If I will have to wait more than three years for a game to be "Ported", at least Nisa showed us a better port than ANY of the Xseed ports and yes, I am a little butt hurt with all this case, I can see every single time on Ys Seven Pages how the game is better ported than Ys VIII, or people saying Nisa did a bad job, wich is not true. They brought us the game way faster than Xseed would bring, they did a marvelous work and even if on the begginig it had a lot of problem they fixed it. They apologized a lot, and they were patient to finish their job even with all the stuff people were calling them.

In the end, sadly when I look at such an amazing game like this one here being so poorly rated because of people with Bad Computers or simply because people didn't wait to see the game fixed OR just asked for a refund and tried to buy the game again, tested it and then remake their reviews, it's sad, it's sad to see people praising a port that literally is a bad emulation of the PSP game with poorly rendered textures, stretched out to full HD and bad background ones, and saying this one is bad for whatever reason.

So, if you came here asking yourself if the game works good: Yes.
The game IS good.
The story IS good.
The game don't look like a port AT ALL.
AND, there's a reason why it's full price up untill now while XSEED ports are quite cheap (not so much these last ones but...).

I'm not attacking XSEED at all, but I don't like when people lick their balls while they don't even try to make a better job, while Nisa tried something big, it was bumpy at first but they did fixed it (They could drop it if they would, really, if you read their blog, the game was impossible to play, with crashes every single part of the game because of the difficulties to make the game work on PC, and they did a wanted us to have a playable game, and in the end they gave us one).

So I do hope that people who want to buy this game buy it, at full price because it deserves it.
I do want people who just rated the game bad because they don't have a good machine rethink what they're doing, and I do think that people that bought the game at launch and they made a bad review just to ask for a refund, try to buy this game again, test it and remake their reviews. Really, different than No Man's Sky that really was bad for two years (and I do have my own thought about that game) this here just took a month to fix everything.

If any of you are having troubles I did have some little ones but it was because of my own fault not the game, just ask, I can see this community here needs more people willing to help and less people ready to attack saying "How bad this game was at launch" forgetting how good it became just a month later.

I hope I did help you guys.

I would love to buy it at full price, but not for this game because of how NISA handle this, very terrible works, not just performance alone but the translation as well

"They could have drop it if they would" you seriously don't know how business work right? The moment they dropped this project, they will suffer a lot more damage than fixing this game, it's difficult to port a game on PC yes, but to do it, you must work with the core structure to create a port and apparently they didn't even do that and only realized that it didn't work on beta test few day after release day, then took months (3 delay) to redo the port nearly from scratch along with the translation

And what do you mean by faster? They only handled the localization for consoles version which is made by Falcom, they only took part in publishing and translation for it, NISA works lies on PC port which is average not at fast all

In short: does this game deserve full price? Yes
Does NISA deserve it? No but Falcom is

I "played" it for 4 hours and the freezes/stutters/crashes were there, and yes it was latest patch.
Not planning to change my rig because of a shoddy port job. No amount of text can change facts.

..and i run this in 6880x2880p. :D
Just buy and have fun, it's a fantastic YS, probably the best one.

Wait, are you saying you have 2 sticks of 4GB running on a single channel? Does your mainboard not support dual channel (weird) or have you just plugged them into the wrong spots?

OP discredits the case he is trying to make by making outrageous statements such as that the XSEED Cold Steel ports were bad, and that they don't have config options, and that NISA did a better job with this game. And also he discredits his case by omitting to mention the new improvements which XSEED implements into their PC versions.

I know people are reporting technical issues. I've not seen any yet myself.

Played it on 2 different rigs so far. First on an ancient machine still running a Radeon HD 6870 until said GPU died. (Game ran surprisingly well too all things considered). Now on a newer rig sporting a GTX 1070.
Both machines have an Intel CPU though.

In it's current state, I don't feel this is a worse port than what XSEED provided so far.
(It's certainly better than Aksys' localisation of Tokyo Xanadu at any rate)

Sorry but having several delay with promises that this will be the last (I don't really mind if the release date isn't strictly the same as the console western release but this was bad communication)...

After 7 months the game was still not 100% playable (which makes it even worse after the fact there was delay to fix the game), then after several patches the game is finally in a decent state (not perfect but at least playable), I don't think my PC couldn't run a 2016 game made for the Vita at first because I could totally play Doom 2016 with mid-to-high settings...

The Ys game overal aren't technically demanding (Falcom isn't a AAA company like Squarenix, they focus more on the gameplay than graphical showcase)

As for the Xseed ports they are all fine... I don't think that Joyoland's Seven port is better (I agree that at launch it wasn't perfect but it also got patches, I think that if it's ok for NISA's Ys 8 then it's ok for Xseed's Ys 7).
I played Celceta on Steam recently and I can assure that the game is better than the Joyoland port...

Also if the game has slowdowns from time to time it's not really that the PC has a crap config, it's literally because the game isn't optimized for some specific setups (like using Win7 + Nvidia could enable some random slowdowns)

I try to not make a long thread but NISA hasn't done a really good work (especially since there were some translation errors for the PS4 version and the Switch port still has issues, and don't say it's because of the Switch because some more demanding game are still running on it and if the vita could run Ys 8 the Switch could as well)

I hope that Monstrum Nox won't meet the same issues and that Falcom will manage to have a team of devs that knows the game engine and PC in general...

PS: dual audio and dubbing is a welcome addition to the game (especially since there are way more cutscenes than the other game) but this isn't required to play the game... Felghana on PC is still playable and the story is still understandable even without the PSP dubs...

Price not justified Playstation 2 graphics in HD.

Buy Tales of Vesperia or FFXII.

So you consider that the price of a game is accordingly to the graphical quality over the gameplay or just the game overal? Also each time people brags about "PS2 graphics" I wanna show them the launch-released PS3 game. Finally the graphisms aren't the main focus of the serie, considering that Falcom is closer to an indie company rather than a AAA one, the game was originally on Vita and it was fine...

Also the Ys, FF and Tales of series are different (not every JRPGs are the same by the way), so playing Vesperia or FF XII isn't the same as playing any Ys game.

do yourself a favour and track down a vita, only people who don't seem to have problems are rich boys with stupidly op computers.

Because people would want to get a dying console to play one game?

I planned to get a Vita back when Celceta wasn't on Steam... good thing it got a port by Xseed.

I don't have too much problems with the game and I don't think I have an op computer....

"Purchase a $200 console for one game"
"Only rich people with stupidly OP computers don't have problems"

lol

It's probably wisest to pretend that Ys 8 never got localized and wait for a decade or two for a proper remake/localization on the PS 7 or PS 8
