It's hard to name actual tracks since my favorites change on a daily basis, but in terms of complete soundtracks my top 3 are: The Ys I & II Perfect Collections (I'm technically cheating here, but as far as I'm concerned I & II are a single game), followed by Oath in Felghana and then Ys SEVEN. If we count non-canon stuff then put Dawn of Ys above everything else. All the other soundtracks I just shuffle around depending on my mood.

my one mainly comprises of boss themes such as probably my persoanl favourite scars of divine wing from origins and the strongests foe ( kinda prefer the classic version to the modern one) and either between dungeon of velstein castle in oath with probably my favourite ys theme genesis beyond the beggining, all the others change from time to time

If we're talking boss themes, then my list is mostly consistent. Here's my top 10 (with version preferences) because I'm too lazy to write down all of them.

1. The Strongest Foe (Felghana = PC-Engine -> rest)
2. Holders of Power (ETERNAL MIDI-GS -> PC-Engine -> Chronicles -> rest)
3. Descendant of Genos (J.D.K. Special -> Pre-arranged)
4. Vacant Interference
5. Protecters (COMPLETE -> Chronicles -> Perfect Collection -> rest)
6. Ernst (Ark = SEVEN OST mini)
7. Over Drive (COMPLETE -> Origin Super Arrange -> Chronicles -> rest)
8. Final Battle (Ys ZANMAI -> PC-Engine -> Chronicles -> ETERNAL SC-88 -> rest)
9. Deadly Temptation
10. Crossing Range
[The rest]
[Trash]
Kefin's boss themes
Anything from SNES Wanderers

Seven is my favorite overall for its huge variety and progressive rock-tinged tracks, followed in no particular order by VIII (very polished and sufficiently varied work from Unisuga/Sonoda, brought down by tracks which Mitsuo Singa arranged), I & II Chronicles (Complete tracks are sometimes better for me), the FM-synth Ys IV original tracks (Dawn of Ys deserved an OST release but we got Perfect Collections instead), and then the mid-2000s Ys soundtracks (of which Ark of Napishtim has my favorite overall style). I'd place Memories of Celceta and Ys V lower, but only because they're more disappointing in and out of context, not because the music's bad or even just decent.

VIII in particular makes up for Celceta having a really fun but disappointing OST, but I think Tokyo Xanadu has even slicker music from the most recent Sound Team jdk line-up. It'll be interesting to hear the soundtrack for Trails of Cold Steel III, especially if they've brought on and kept a third composer/arranger recently.

I have a soft spot for Ark of Napishtim's music (from the opening music to the last boss music passing by one of the greatest boss fight I've heard in a RPG).

the PCE Ys games also have the best musics for me

Oath in Felghana's soundtrack is my favourite. Nostalgia might look sideways at the original Ys (I played Ys - the Vanished Omen on the SEGA Master System way back, and the Chronicles versions are awesome) but I just love the OiF soundtrack so much more.

If we're talking legitimate game soundtracks, I'd say I'm actually probably torn between The Dawn of Ys on PC Engine and The Ark of Napishtim.

If you mean any and all full Ys albums, I'd probably go with the Perfect Collections for Ys I, II and Wanderers, as well as the Dawn of Souls albums for Ys IV.

Since I've only really played up to Ys Origin, and have yet to play Seven, Memories of Celceta and especially Lacrimosa of Dana, I can't really place them -- for whatever reason, I seem to have a better time remembering Ys soundtracks after I've played the game they originate from.

That's because hearing the music while playing leaves a much bigger impact than just listening to it in your player.

I mean, I can't argue with that. It's just that I can't really comment on any soundtrack after Origin because of that.

Then it's high time you play them, so you can comment. :3

Dawn of Ys surely has great musics (but strangely I don't really like how the SNES sounds for an Ys game)

I found SNES mostly okay (a far better attempt than the fartfest that was Wanderers), but it still can't hold a candle to the PC-Engine.

SNES was good for orchestrated music (thanks to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest) but not for techno and rock musics sadly (for exemple the Streets of Rage ost wouldn't sound as good with the snes soundchip)

Yep, you nailed it. The closest thing SNES ever got to good metal was Mega Man X and even that's stretching it.
