You are correct to put them into the document NWN folder. Beamdog restructured the folder system with the EE version.
You know... I have the modules installed on the original NWN version. Let me try this on the EE version and then report back. Meanwhile you can check if you installed everything and did it correctly.
I just tried loading c1 and c2 and they seem to work, its just the prelude.
I thought I put everything in the right place, I reinstalled the whole game and mods twice trying to get it right but knowing me i have probably done something wrong ':)
Normally when the modules are missing something the game lets you know what it is and not just crash. This is weird.
I have some loot and appearance change mods installed. Maybe they bug out when played with old modules. Just tried Tales of Arterra to test if the newest EE version isn't buggy. The intro behaved abnormal and my character got undressed when that shouldn't be. Then I tried the EE version of the Aielund Saga and everything works fine so far.... I should note that Tales of Arterra was made for old NWN. The Aielund Saga got revisited to make a EE version for it.
Hm. I need to experiement with that a bit.
Is it possible to run NWN without EE? I'm guessing not right, as its a different game?
The EE version is the EE version. But you can try and see if Steam still has a legacy beta version on there. The Legac version must be something with 7xxxxxx, before they switched the game engine to 64x. Maybe downgrading the game version will help.
(right click NWN> properties > betas > select “Beta/Legacy/Whatever version” version. I play on GOG so I don't know wheter Steam has these versions available or not).
Another thing that you can try is setting your graphics on poor or really low and see how far it goes. Worked for some poeple when they had problems with starting old modules or certain level transtition. If it works then save your game and crank up your graphic options to max or whatever you previously had.
Anyway if you want to watch the intro movie you can do it outside of the game. Every video player should be able to play off the video file format. If not, download VLC. It's a trustworthy open source software.

Apparently this software will help to automatically convert the old movie files into files that the EE version recognises.

Huh... need to try it out. Anyway in case you want to play more old modules in the future I leave this here.
