Firefly, the Video Game

Is it just me or does this game look very similar to the old and much loved Firefly TV series?

You become a captain of an unreliable freight hauler. Your crew is a tomboyish engineer, a preacher, a black female mercenary, and a young guy with confidence issues.

You run around a galaxy of western-like settlement, controlled by an all-controlling corporation who spies on and controls everything and everyone, working odd jobs outside the law.

Heck, there's even an easter egg where you return to your ship on occasion and find the hold full of cows, which is a direct nod to Firefly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm *thoroughly* enjoying the game, but like the TV series I'm playing the side quests as the main episodes with the main quest of ending tyranny as the background story.

Heh, even the critique that the game seems to end just when it's getting good seems to be directly tied into the TV series...

All I know is that I'm getting some serious Firefly vibes playing this, and I absolutely love it.

Yeah it's got that space western vibe good. Just different enough not to be a copywrite issue. I'm hoping we get more installments.

Outwrworlds 2, wtf happened to Earth?

When I first started playing this game, it reminded me of working at Oracle. Kind of depressing.

But I noticed some inspirations clearly drawn from Firefly and started to ask myself when doing the quests, "what would Malcolm Reynolds do?" It's been a lot of fun.

So far nothing seems blatant copyright infringement rather just mild "fair use".
Firefly was one of the better Space Westerns and I would like to see more of it. So I'm enjoying Outer Worlds for that.
