Can't fit a silencer
I bought a silencer because it said was for ranged weapons but I can't put it on a pistol or hunting rifle, only a shotgun. This makes no sense. Is this a bug or what?

They just have to have a barrel slot open, not all guns do. Unique weapons usually have all their slots fixed, and a lot of early-game weapons have limited slots -- but their later upgrades are fully moddable. I don't really know why they did it that way, I guess just because of how the loot leveling works? Maybe they didn't want you to fully upgrade an early gun knowing you'd just have to dump it later.

I think most low level weapons don't support barrel mods, you may have to get your hands on higher level version of the hunting rifle to add a silencer.

Oh, I see. Rather annoying because I do could do with a silenced weapon and would prefer that not to be tactical shotgun!

Unrelated question but does it matter where I sell junk items? Does a gunsmith for example buy junk at the same cost as a general store?

It's based on your highest dialogue skill and your reputation with that merchant's faction. If they're Agreeable or better, it's 5%,15%, or 25% at Revering, minus any penalties for if you have a negative/mixed reputation.

Some guns are still a bit quieter by default, and earlier enemies have shorter detection ranges, I think? With the hunting rifle, if you're far enough away, the rest of a cluster of enemies won't necessarily notice you if you one-shot your target from cover.

Good advice, thanks!
