My Hype is Dead

Its finally almost been a year. First time I saw The Outer Worlds advertised I added the money to my steam wallet. I saw its page on the steam store, thought it was odd I couldn't pre-order, but it didn't phase me. I was hyped and I couldn't wait. I never get that way about games.

A few days before release and I see everyone talking about it being an Epic Games exclusive for the first year after release. Still pisses me off. I already spent the $60 on CS:GO keys and Hoi4 DLC. My hype is completely dead for this game by now. I never even watched any videos of gameplay or anything because I didn't want to spoil it. I did hear it wasn't as good as people expected though.

As someone who was in love with this game pre-release, I can not say with any confidence that I will be buying it even when it does come to steam in a month. At first I was willing to wait, but you can only anticipate something so long before that anticipation dies and you lose interest entirely. That time was 4 months ago when I finally caved and used up the money sitting in my steam wallet that was all that time ago preserved for The Outer Worlds.

Yeah, my one post here expressing my disappointment in the way the game released misleadingly is most certainly ‘review bombing’ it. Wanting to see if anyone shares my sentiments is certainly equal to a war crime. You’re outrage at me sharing my opinion is unwarranted.

I have little loyalty to steam. I go for the best deal as a consumer. I would have bought it on Epic if I knew before I already put the money in my steam wallet. Pissed me off they never said in any of the advertisements that it was epic exclusive.

You don't need a xbox to use xbox games pass on the PC. You only need a MS account. Infact I really think they need to change the name of xbox games pass to something else to stop the confusion.

Was it not possible at the time to do a refund of the wallet money ?

M8, MS are still doing the $1 offer for xbox games pass PC. Head on over and check it out, at least you get to see what the game is like and 100 others at least for $1.

I did not pre-order it. Do you read? I put the money in my steam wallet for the purpose of buying the game on release. Pre-order was not an option.

You spent money in the context of purchasing this game. That's all that was posted. I just asked a question given your action didn't make sense.

Time to put this aside now m8, you have learned this lesson well. But my advice to you is to go over and grab 'xbox games pass for PC' for $1 (think offer is still up) and you can even use your mobile phone to pay. This way, you can play The outer worlds and 100 other titles for one month for $1.

You don't want it anyways. It's replayability is basically zilch, none and the characters/story is easily forgettable. If you're a braindead zoomer tho this might appeal to you.

I would say 99.9% of us don't care if the OP plays the game or not because in our view, it's all self imposed. But no doubt there will be some people out there who are empathetic to the OP's plight and can relate to him.

Honestly I think the exclusivility was a blessing in disguise. The more I look at reviews and screenshots of that game the more I think I would have regretted paying full price for it. It seems like the story and characters are a bit subpar compared to the hype generated with the game promoted as a fallout successor. And the world seems heavily inspired by Borderlands which isn't really fitting for a RPG in my opinion, it's too colorful and wonky to be taken seriously and generate immersion at least for me it is.

If you cannot be excited about anything in life and need hype to justify enjoyment you might likely be dead inside. What a boring outlook on life. Oh no the game didn't meet my expectations because of the "hype".
