Swap out what they are using, and it's all yours.
Yes.
When you're deployed (i.e. not in the Unreliable), and in the main <tab> screen, there should be one main tab per companion. Click on that, then the subtabs with gun and armor icons. They appear to have no objection with you switching up their gear (they can each carry only two weapons, one body armor, one helmet).
FWIW, you don't have to worry about them losing durability or needing ammo, but they won't automatically level up their weapons. So if you switch back to an early-game companion that you haven't worked with for a while, check whether you've left them with low-level gear that needs to be replaced or tinkered upwards.
Perhaps it's related to deployed (i.e. not in the Unreliable) I have zero clues of what it means. But what I see is I can check my character full details and inventory but nothing of companion.
I don't know what's this UI design but it's brilliant, how the hell they could succeed hide companion management is out of my understanding. But I believed UI was supposed to be crystal clear when well done, perhaps not for Obsidian games, sigh.
It's that simple. And it's so weird because they are at best followers not companions in a party that you manage so they don't have a full character panel.
I can only admit it's my fault, but still think it's total BS UI design. I add this post to highlight it's that basic if someone like me just can't quote the extra tab. :-)
