Q: Activating The Outer Worlds key on Steam
Will there be any complications if I purchase the game from an online vendor and activate the game on Steam? I don't use any online distribution services other than Steam and would like to avoid subscribing to yet another one. For instance, will the game patch or have available any Steam features available when it comes out officially on Steam?

It plays just fine in Steam as a non Steam game. Epic does not have DRM. The launcher is not required to play the game. However Steam keys do not exist for the game you cannot activate the key on Steam.

If you buy a key from somewhere its only usable through the Epic store.

But If you're running Windows 10, you can buy it from the Microsoft Store on your start menu. That version doesn't require Epic.

Dont trust any source offering a steam key right now, wait a year.

Like the others said. If any source claims its a "steam key" then its a scam. Other than that, you can just simply add the game as a non-steam game, if you get the game fro Epic or Microsoft you'll have to use their luanchers to update the game since the game isn't offically released on steam till a year from now.

So it seems best to wait a year for a Steam release then. A good thing is that by then Nexusmods should have graphics and UI mods to correct for any clumsy console settings.

Just play it on ms store for $1 and pick it up on sale on steam down the track.
