I hit a wall in this game that is so frustrating!
So I have been playing the game for like 30 hours, trying to play a charming rogue kind of guy to fit the Firefly vibe. I tried really hard to thread the needle on all of my faction quests and did a pretty good job... except...

Then the game finally unlocked Byzantium which was good since the NPCs who were pushing me there. But they didn't see fit to tell me that the whole city wanted me dead. Somehow in threading the needle with all the faction quests I pissed off The Board, and now I am "shoot on sight". And because of the ham handed way the game handles faction rep, there is really nothing I can do about it. Nobody to pay off, I tried going and doing some side quests that give Board rep but it's not enough to stop them from hating me.

I mean, why would me ship even be able to land if the whole city has murder on the mind?

And it isn't just sneaking around guards, I mean everyone wants me dead.. and god forbid I get spotted by a guard, the whole city starts shooting at me. There is no way out, and to finish the game, or at least all the quests attached to Byzantium, I'll need to murder a whole city.

That isn't really much of a roleplaying option...

This sucks. I need to set the game aside because I really don't want to finish the game like this.

I have to admit I thought about going into Byz guns blazing.

As it happens I'm not KOS everywhere, but I have had a couple shoot outs. Oddly after the firefight ends most of the locals act like nothing happened.

Specific to the why would they let you land bit, some of the NPC actually address it in flavor conversations. The folks in charge trust that no one who shouldn't have a landing key can get one, so they don't monitor. If you can land you are allowed to.

Same thinking when people put up a firewall but no other security on their networks. That human blind spot is why Trojan Horses work.

Huh, I must have made a mistake somewhere because the first shootout I had ended up cascading to civilians opening fire as well. The game is so imbalanced that I'd have zero trouble killing all the guards ... I guess I'll just try that.

Watch your fire, may be too late, as you kill you can get further faction hits. I went in with a bit more positive faction than negative. Now negative is a bit higher but I'm only shot at in restricted areas.

Well that and when I picked a pocket... but once that firefight died down things were kosher again.

There is a quest option that lowers the boards negative rep. In my play through, the negative Board rep wasn't too high, but this particular action reduced the negative back down to zero.

I'm pretty sure this was the quest: at one point when visiting Phineas Welles, the board wants you to send them a signal from his terminal so they can track where his base is... there are a couple of options for that, but if/when you send the signal, it reduces the Board's negative rep.

I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is the mission where I was investigating the empty space station and the Board sent the crew to kill me... maybe I was supposed to talk my way out of it?

So my solution was rather lame and I hated to have to do it. I ran through the city and killed all of the guards, taking care not to kill any civilians... then I slept on my ship for a few days and now I can walk through the city and finish quests.

What I wouldn't give for the Elder Scrolls Z key so I could clear all these bodies out of the streets. :/

You can get an ID card in one of the rooms. I scared off mine with a self destruct button by lying. So I only deal with the robots.

I haven't got that far. I am stuck in another location with no work around so I am going to have to back out and come back another time when I am better prepared. Bugs are making mincemeat of me and I do not have enough ammo for my plasma weapon.

your companions doesn’t need ammo just armed them to the teen and armour them up.

I'm mowing through the guards with an electro damage assault rifle. With the upgrades and the tinker increases guns get scarry.

You must have massacred a faction that was board friendly, because if you played this game against the board like i did making every choice against the capitalist faction then this shouldnt happen.
Bastila Shan Nov 3, 2019 @ 8:31pm
Also combat is so easy in this you could easily just kill everyone in this entire game. In order to be shot on sight with the board you definitely killed a whole bunch of people unnecessarily.

im in the exact same boat.. tried not to kill factions and get a good rep with all as much as possible anyway.but im guessing maybe it was the crew they sent as well.it had to be nothing else makes sense.going to go back a save or 2 and try to up rep at groundbreaker otherwise its full bore rambo at byzantium..

I've been watching the fights and every time I fought UDL troops there was a significant, 15 to 20% ish hit to my board faction. So yeah, that fight at the space station could do it, so could other things. It's avoidable and I might try on my second play through. For now I'm just murder facing board lackies and helping myself to their stuff.
