I'm wondering if you really paid attention to any of the dialogue.
Parvati joins your crew because she's got nothing in Edgewater worth staying for and she dreams of travelling to space.
Ellie didn't join you for helping her friend. She wasn't friends with her. She joined you because she's a freelancer who was looking for a new gig when you came around. She wasn't abandoning anything.
SAM was already on your ship.
Felix was newly unemployed and wanted a job. The only question is why you'd want him, not why he'd want to join you.
Nyoka was hired to be your guide. The coffee pills just got her to work sooner.
Meanwhile Max abandoned his entire congregation and Edgewater without a second glance because....french.
I like Max just fine but his reasons weren't better than anyone elses.
Nah they'll look back and laugh how people got their panties in a twist over....short hair.

DUH BUH DUH. Nice straw man dude. That certainly taught me a thing or two. When every single woman in a strong and talented person then it's boring. In modern media men are allowed to be goofy and heavily flawed. The worst trait the women have in outer worlds is they are awkward tumblrettes. Other than that they are perfect at their chosen careers. Vicar Max is good at beating things to death and he's the best companion.
Nice how you came back just to say this. Yeah it would be an interesting twist for a female character to not be overly strong and perfect in every way. There isn't a single weak woman in the entire game. Lots of cowardly and stupid/evil men though!
FRENCH?! You accuse me of not paying attention yet you belittle him? The dude abandoned his family to pursue knowledge and become a better follower of his faith. He wanted to make his parents proud and after accusing him of abandoning them all he has is his faith and his pursuit of knowledge.
The women are all shallow generic IM SO STRONG AND INDEPENDANT AND PERFECT! I CAN DEAL WITH ANYTHING ALWAYS! DURP DURP DURP! They are boring. Women characters in modern media are all written the same because they are afraid of offending people.
What ever you live you have to be strong. On Monarch you are weak you end up eaten. Everywhere else you are fired by a corporation because you are not a good asset and you end up eaten. If they aren't any weak women it is because they are all ended eaten.
And about the perfect women. Some are Drunkard, overly aggressive, consumed by hatred or at the edge of madness. They are not all perfect.
Nyoka has a lot of problems and baggage as you could see in her quest. And I can see her joining you after that personal quest. Not after the coffe pill quest without asking for compensation however. Phineas paid her to guide you on Monarch, not to go around Halcyon.
Ellie has flaw as the ending acknowledged. But it doesnt manifest in her quest at all, only explain why she is that way. Granted she needed your help. But EVERYBODY needed your help, that's not good writing on their part.
