The problem is, people don't like to wait and they also don't like bots.
With map selection, your Vikendi matches would be full of bots many times and others don't wait 10-15 minutes just to die a few minutes after because they also like to hot drop and having action instead of to loot and playing safe.
Most regions don't even have enough players anymore anyway so the only mode where the devs could think of changes is, EU Fpp squad but thats it.

A system where people can vote also cause the same = dead maps.
We didn't lose so many players after PUBG removed the selection and PUBG is the only BR game anyway that offered something like that. All other BR games do force the players to play one specific map.
How does it look in Apex?
Apex has a system of rotation where each map is available for one hour or one specific amount of time.
Ranked has a different setting there. Only one map for the whole season, so almost 3 months. If you don't like one map in Apex, you have to wait one hour or one long season to get something else.
There is no selection in Apex.
Just 3 modes, "Duo, Trio, and ranked Trio". Sometimes some special event.

If the devs give the following option "Turn ON this option of you prefer to wait for the map you want, even if that mean to wait a lot" That should NOT interfere with the game as is now, and it's super simple to implement. The dev didn't take that possibility into consideration in that link
Because it has also some negative impact, slowing down the entire system.

What if you bring like a system where the maps that players prefer to play have a higher chance to be selected by the game for the player to play, and the maps that player prefer to play less, have less chances. It could work like this: In the config menu, a player can select the maps that they prefer the most, and prefer less. That mean that players will continue to play the map that they don't like, but not as often as the maps they actually like. Something like that
