I believe if you put a skin you had on Showcase it will be there for ever unless you change a slot or move the panel from profile since it works with CS:2 items this way.
You see it's a total blur and Krafon, as well as the forum admin who will read these lines, doesn't care to inform us on the subject since in any case it is not to their advantage. Removing the Steam inventory is a stupid idea, I haven't touched the game since this update and I wouldn't put another euro into it.
in my case it did automatically removed itself from the showcase because to my surprise the items displayed are gone and i don't remember removing those items in my showcase
exactly man, not a single accurate explanation why some inventories still show "not tradable and marketable" items while mine is all gone
honestly i stopped playing the game years ago, i only open it and if i see something nice or any collab skins i just buy it for the purpose of steam item showcase lol, now i ain't buying anything no more
literally bought joker and harley for item showcase now i can't even show it xd and all the other progressive and battlestat skins
I'm in the same situation as you, I played a little to obtain the items that interested me, and I had the easy bank card when I liked a skin in order to have it in my Steam inventory.
i know that there is a large community, particularly Brazilian ones, who do not swear by Pubg skins on Steam. I also know that this may seem ridiculous to some players... except that these are often players who spend little or no money in the game.
I am sure that Krafton will lose a lot of money after this decision. But he seems to say that this is just to facilitate the display of skins in the game, which from my point of view is partly or even completely false.
I think that in reality Valve charges game publishers who use Steam inventory, which is normal. And that the database becomes too big and therefore too expensive.
Furthermore, the very gradual disappearance of current skins avoids the shock and frustration of players at seeing EVERYTHING disappear at once. But when all the players who buy a lot on the game realize that their skin has lost value (because no longer being able to consult/display them on steam is for me a IMPORTANT devaluation of the skin) then there will be advantage of post like yours and krafton will start to earn less money.
