Unfortunately. A long time ago, Bluehole realized that in order for people to play their new, worse, maps - they need to force people to.

Had people have the option today, only Erangel and Dustin would be played, and a subset of players who can't afford Call of Duty would play Sanhok and drop boot camp, because they really just want to play an arena shooter and don't have the attention span for navigating and strategizing.

Pretty much. But the map rotation doen´t always work somehow. The other day I had Miramar in 8 of 10 games, while it is told to only have a 25% chance of being the map you play. (And yeah, I hate Miramar)
