Ranked has no ranks - bronze could play against diamonds and masters in same match, because no one plays this game anymore.
It's very simple, the lack of players.
Most of the players do play TPP but not in EU/NA.
The system does look for similar skilled players and in case it cannot find some, it does put all ranks together.
No scam or anything because in Asia, the system does work as it should because they do have enough players for 3, 4 different pools. Bronze-Silver, Gold-Platin, Diamond-Master etc.
At prime time, EU Fpp has enough players for 2-3 pools too.
Once we reached Platin, we only played against other Platin, Diamond and Master ranks.
i play in asia.
AS, KAKAO and SEA, do have enough players for a healthy matchmaking.
AS and KAKAO even more than SEA.
AS & KAKAO something like 40% each and SEA something like 6% of all players.
Those stats below are from June 2020 and we do have now almost the same amount of active and daily peaking players.

We spoke about matchmaking in terms of rank not about cheaters.
Check the stats on your own and you can see, we do have almost the same players as back in 2020, and even more, if we count the new players from the Epic store.
Blaming my legit source but naming some conspirancy theories is ridicules so watch your own side please.
There is no drop to 20.000 active players except when PUBG does a maintenance.
Another false information there.
The regular lowest player count is something like 70-80k.
I play in SEA server. When I click on Career > Stats > Ranked > Leaderboard : I see the ranked leaderboard for SEA. I see 90%+ players in this SEA server are from China in TPP. Even friends from Beijing are in SEA leaderboards.
So my lousy matchmaking experience was in ranked SEA TPP squad mode.
Based on what a random teammate said, matchmaking across teams is based on the host's rank. Based on what I remember reading somewhere - a dev update maybe, matchmaking across teams is based on the team's highest rank.
Either way, that would explain what happened - I'm in gold rank right now. There were times when I got matched with random silver teammates, and got trashed by diamond-rank squads. When I get platinum teammates, I get trashed by master-rank squads. This sort of matchmaking isn't fun. It's just stomping. There is no fight. There is just get killed.
Conclusion: ranked matchmaking sucks even in SEA/ASIA/Chinese servers.
KAKAO is a stand-alone game launcher.
5-6% is a lot compared today but it also depends on how many random squad players looking for a match. If you join as a team, your experience would be better and the daytime also matters too.
Playing late night does increase the chance to get mixed matches, it's the same in Apex.
At some point, almost all high ranks have to play togehter otherwise it does take too long for one match.
