Hi Ursi,
Unlike most first/third person shooter games where your bullets fire/spawn from the middle of your screen, in PUBG the bullets come directly out of the barrel of the gun and all rifles are zeroed to 100m by default.
This means at 100m the bullet should hit where your iron sight / attached sight displays, but at ranges before that the bullet is still travelling in an upward direction. So if you're close to an object and you cannot see anything in your sights, your gun may still hit the object because its coming from the lower point on your gun, being the barrel and not coming out of the centre of your screen / the sight itself.
I hope this helps!
Cheers
Idiots. If you can look down your sights, it means your weapon is ABOVE the "blockage".
That is not true.
If your barrel is obstructed by objects, this is the case - but not if your bullets will be obstructed and your barrel is still able to sit freely without being obstructed by an object.
Yes, bullet penetration is coming.
I think what the raging kid meant to say in a more articulated way:
There are often times where it is very obvious that your barrel appears to be clearing an obstacle, but the bullet hits the window sill/whatever anyway. The issue isn't that most players don't understand where the bullet comes from, it is that we understand it comes from the barrel but the "barrel" is apparently originating some 10-12 inches below where it appears to the player.
Additionally, if the barrel were truly positioned correctly for the purposes of bullet trajectory then iron sights would only cause this to happen if you were aiming an inch or two above the object. This is not the case however, as in game iron sights clip objects just as badly as every other sight.
Lastly, if bullets coming from the barrel of your weapon is such an important aspect of the game's design then I might suggest creating cover and obstacles that are not at the perfect height to get in the way of the barrel. Barred windows are probably the most obnoxious offender, the lower sill and middle bar seem like they were purposely coded to be as ludicrously hard to shoot around as possible. You know exactly where the barrel of the gun is going to be when a player is crouched or standing, just make cover items slightly low enough to be shot over.
tl;dr
Mechanics should be both clear and consistent for the player. It is clear that bullets come from the barrel of your weapon and not your sights, but it is horribly inconsistent that my bullets clip objects that are significantly below the barrel anyway.
There is. It's called awareness.
Or not? Hypothetically I could crouch behind a car and put my rifle on it and shoot from behind cover. In this game you'll just hit the car. It's not an awareness issue it's a cover/shooting mechanic issue.
Yeah I got that- Literally everyone and their mom has said that - that isn't what I'm arguing at all. Rather that there should be some form of notification/ block to aiming a rifle through a wall. You can't aim a rifle at a wall when you are right up on it. If you were up against a window you could- yet that isn't realistic to aim the rifle out the window so you can look down the scope while also having the barrel in the wall. The barrel should be through the window. Or if behinda rock or buggy- same principle. If you are right up on the object you shouldn't be able to aim as you literally wouldn't be able to. Also it does happen outside of houses - I noticed it most hiding behind a buggy and would just hit the front trie - got headshotted because of that bull.
