"Sound Whoring"
I'm using headphones & 7:1 configuration with the volume Jacked. The. Hell. Up., & I can't hear enemy player movement at all unless I'm standing completely still, crouch walking, or crawling. Meaning if I'm moving around the map looting, my own movement entirely drowns out any type of enemy movement outside of them shooting their weapon. This is resulting in people manuevering directly behind me as I loot, & without me being able to detect them at all until I'm already dead.

Could this be due to my sound config, or am I vastly underestimating the degree of camping that this game caters to?

If youre playing TPP its probably just campers. Ive never seen such a massive amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ per capita than in PUBG.

7.1 doesnt work properly if at all in PUBG, switch it.

The sound is terrible in PUGB. I already uninstalled the game 2x out of frustration. I have sound card on stereo only and use quality phones and have big trouble locating shots. I see sooooo many opponents confused when i shoot at them cause they cant locate the sound. This is HUGE flaw of the game.

I dont believe this game supports true surround sound. I use 5.1 stereo, 4 speakers and woofer, and it gives me good basic directional sound. But your own sounds are loud in this game. That said, you should still be able to hear other players unless they are in full crouch creep mode using ironsights to go super slow and quiet. You can sneak up on anyone that way.

Looting quietly as possible is key to survival in this game. Especially after the first few minutes of the round starting. If you're running around full sprint in buildings people can hear you 4 buildings or more away. And they will ambush you for your lootables.

I dont understand sound very much, I played alot with it and can hear shots, footsteps etc. perfectly. Just play around in the settings and remember your defaults in case something goes bad

Use stereo. Surround doesnt work correctly with this game.

I'm mean take landing in pochinki as an example. After the initial gun fights, and when there are only 4-5 people left in town creeping around, I must break up my looting with periods of listening. In otherwords I stop go stop go stop go, mixed in with some crouch creeping. So I can hear people coming in and out of my vicinity.

Bottom line, is you would need to compromise and slow your looting down in this situation, so that people are less likely to creep on you unnoticed.

I play solo NA on FPP perspective only.

Yeah you need stereo and I have 7.1 headphones but I appreciate that in a game like this they make it an even playing field with the stereo sound tbh

So odd that the sounds of your own footsteps and movements, a mere few feet away from your ears, should be louder than the movements of people 5-10 (or more) meters away from you...

How unrealistic!

Personally, irl, I hear distant objects far better than I hear something moving directly next to me...

LoL, I'm tone deaf, for some reason, I thought you were serious. Yah, I mean if your are running around a house, it seems totally realistic for some one to crouch creep up on you. Add planes, rain and redzone, when those sounds are going is when I like to rush in Pochinki and elsewhere.

7.1 makes footsteps softer.. Use 5.1

Goto youtube, theres instructions on how to run live sound compression to improve the dynamic range.

I've a setof headphones that switches between stereo and whatever counts as 'normal' and 7.1 and realised that 7.1 makes it harder to hear footsteps, harder to determine where a bullet comes from, and usually wont letyou hear sounds directly behind you.

Just use Stereo. And hope in the future they make the game much more compatable with 7.1
