Only straight behind you or just behind you in general?
Can you hear precisely from the sides?

Headset with jacks or USB?
If USB, are the drivers installed?
5.1, 7.1 or stereo?

I can only recomment jacks and stereo at ALL times.

I have same issue, Everything from vehicles and explosiosn to gun shtos and foot steps. It's not muffled or quiet there's just no sound, tested it with my team mates shooting behind me and such. Started happening since last update so hopefully there is a fix.

Hmm... I never experienced or heard about an issue like this with PUBG.
Do you have another headset to test if it could just be an issue of the periphery?

If it happens with another headset as well it should be either a problem with your system (soundcard, mainboard, etc.) or a software issue.
Not completely excluded that there is a problem with the game itself, ofc.

the thing is, its only in PUBG, not in any other game like arma bo3 anything

Well that sounds weird.
Like I said, it can still be a problem the game has with your system, in general.
Like a problem with a specific sound card, or something like that, but this is out of my range to judge and, unfortunately, to help, as well. :(

I may try it with my home theatre system considering thats the only other thing i have, if it's the same on the system then it's the game. My headset isn't the best so i didn't think too much of it.

But if you say your headset works fine on other games and you can also hear what's behind you there, then it should not be a headset related problem, even if it might be ♥♥♥♥♥♥. ;)

yeahhhhhh true, if two+ people have the exact same problem without the exact same equipment it's a safe bet it's the game. They're probably playing with some audio settings that they haven't added into the options menu yet and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ it for a certain type of headset or connection
