Edit: actually,at my headset sound properties i can only use 16bit
It's also available on Steam but that version has a ton of issues, better to just get it off the website. The demo version also has one profile where as the full one has four more. Sadly the demo one is the worst of them as it distorts the sound the most. A couple of the others gives a lot "cleaner" sound while still providing a good surround effect. It's still good for being free though.
Also, make sure everything else you have installed is disabled (other virtual surround, equalization, etc.) or it'll most likely sound terrible.
Regarding HRTF,i noticed that gunshot distance positioning is better without HRTF,but footstep positional sound is way way worse without it,so i suppose its best to keep it on,for now
Up
Most likely it only seems that way since gunshots are generally louder with HRTF on, making footsteps harder to make out when people are shooting.
It's true that with HRTF on it's much easier to judge the direction of gunshots but at the same time it almost makes it impossible to determine distance... so it's I would say it's much better to have it off and use some external virtual surround solution to make it easier to determine direction.
